New Days at DMV Service Centers Begin in January

A new year means new days of customer service at Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Service Centers in Monroe and Darlington. Beginning Monday, January 5, 2016, the Monroe DMV will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In Darlington, the new days will be Monday and Wednesday. The hours remain the same at both locations, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“Customers in Monroe and Darlington can visit their local DMV service center during hours that start very early and go later than most DMV service centers in the state,” said Jill Reeve, DMV operations manager, WisDOT Southwest Region. “We switched the days of service to optimize resources and provide better service to our customers.”

Many customers are surprised to learn that most routine DMV-related tasks can be done online at http://www.wisconsindmv.gov. “Customers really only need to visit a DMV service center once every eight years to renew their driver license,” Reeve said. Tasks such as renewing an ID, titling a vehicle, renewing license plates, and others can be done online 24/7. During regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., online chat and phone support are available to answer questions.

DMV also offers eNotify for annual license plate/registration renewals. This helps customers avoid paying late fees and eliminates reminder postcards. Paperless renewal reminders are sent via text or email and include direct links to DMV vehicle registration for easier, immediate plate renewal.

Only the website with .gov is the official state website. Others with .org and .com are not official and may have extra charges for forms or list information that is dated or incorrect.
