A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians

October 14 and 15, in New Glarus

October 12, 2017

Looking for an incredible, fun-filled, fall experience in Southern Wisconsin? Come to A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians-A Renaissance Faire Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15, from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., rain or shine, at the beautiful, wooded Wilhelm Tell Grounds, W5199 Hwy W, New Glarus, WI 53574.

A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians promises to astound both young and old! Come celebrate the arts and history of the Renaissance at the 10th Anniversary of A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians, where storytellers abound, giant fish and swordsmen walk the streets, strange sisters sing with washtubs, and everywhere you look there is magic. Spy primitive sheep, see Fandazzi Fire Circus bringing more fire than ever, experience live action role play, learn medieval fighting, be inspired by knights, but beware of the orcs in the woods! Be charmed by lords and ladies, learn blacksmithing, discuss the art of sword making, try on armor, learn Renaissance country dancing, join in the merriment — all for a fair price of $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth 4-12 and free for ages 3 and under. Weekend pass: $15.00 and $8.00. Want to experience more fun, attend in costume. Spend a little extra jingle and ride a horse, try your hand at archery, or purchase some beautiful wares. The faire is home to over 50 creative artisans and merchants. Shop all day and find unique gifts—furs, leather ware, pottery, weaponry, swords, collectibles, masks, chain maille, Renaissance garb, fantasy, and Steampunk attire, herbs, dragons, toys, and pirate treasure are amongst the stunning array of goods. Let the smells of some outstanding foods tempt you: Dragonz Lair Vittlez, Heavenly Smoked Roasters, Calli’s Pub, Sadie’s Corn on the Cobb, and don’t forget a treat from Wonderland Sweets. Get a serving of Renaissance personality with a crunchy Thunder Pickle—still only $1.00. Get a Rogues and Ruffians’ mug topped with Monroe’s very own Blumer’s Rootbeer or New Glarus Beer at the Pickled Gizzard Pub or a cup of mead, compliments of Bos Meadery.

While the faire is for everyone, it wouldn’t be Rogues and Ruffians if we didn’t have the kids at the core of the faire. Kids can enjoy building a life-sized castle with artist Stuart Hellwig, new this year: a Witch’s Lair where fortunes are told and the fun bubbles over! Kids can spy fairies and pirates all around the grounds, a belly dance class at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, learn history from great historians, go on the Kids Quest all weekend, be in a stage show, see a knight parade at 4:05 p.m., on Saturday, play games in the Kids Kingdom, and so much more. Kids come in costume and visit the Monk at Mystic Moraine Minerals for a magic stone. Join the magic at Rogues and Ruffians, where kids rule the day!

A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians 2017 is a collaboration between Shakespeare on the Edge and the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.

All proceeds from A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians-A Renaissance Faire benefit the youth programming of the Monroe, Wisconsin, based non-profit, Shakespeare on the Edge, Inc., where kids find their greatest potential through the art of Shakespeare and by respecting each other.
