October 12, 2017

Sue Moen

On Friday night, October 6th, firefighters from New Glarus, Monticello, Belleville, Monroe, Juda, Mount Horeb and Brooklyn, as well as New Glarus Area EMS and New Glarus Police, responded to a report of a fire in Puempel's Olde Tavern on 6th Avenue (STH 39) in New Glarus.

The fire, which began in a fan in the men's restroom, spread into walls and the ceiling in places.

According to owner Chuck Bigler, outside of the men's restroom and a storage room, the bar suffered minimal damage. Lessia Bigler's business Plumfyre and an apartment upstairs had more extensive damage. More photos are available in the photo gallery on this website: http://www.postmessengerrecorder.com/photos.

Puempel's Olde Tavern owner Chuck Bigler donated the money from the bar's ceiling to the New Glarus Fire Department in appreciation for their service at Friday night's fire. The $3,000 donation will go to the NGFD's building addition fund.
