Veterans Park Receives Grant

January 11, 2018

New Glarus Veterans Park recently received a grant from the New Glarus Community Foundation. With this donation, the New Glarus Veterans Park committed to dedicate the Veteran Marker that will list Veterans of Desert Storm and the current wars in May 2018. We also received a very generous donation from the New Glarus Brewing Co.

Donations are still needed to finish this last marker. Donors so far for this marker are: New Glarus Brewing Co., New Glarus Lions Club, New Glarus Community Foundation, William and Jackie Hustad and family, Charles and Gladys Hustad and family, New Glarus American Legion Post 141, New Glarus VFW Post 10549, New Glarus American Legion Auxiliary Unit 141, Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Chapter 3, AMVETS Post 69 honors Francis Beers, In Memory of Erwin Zweifel by Kay and his family, In Memory of Dorothy Palmer Kuenzi, in Memory of Alfred Ufken, Bank of New Glarus, Milo and Deborah Parker, SMSGT (Ret) Rand Kuenzi – 26 years USAF.

We are making a final call for names to put on this Veterans Marker and to add names to previous markers. The deadline is the end of January 2018.

We are still taking brick orders, so please order a brick honoring a Veteran that is a relative or a friend. If you notice that a brick is wrong or a name is missing on an existing marker, please let us know. You may contact Bill Hustad at (608) 527-2942 or (608) 576-3025 or email at, if you have any questions. The Park Board consists of Bill Hustad, Bill Kuenzi, Ron Kittleson, Doug Oppliger and Linda Stolts. Please contact a Board member to confirm names.

The Village has put in a concrete walkway into the Park from the Parking Lot, giving handicap accessibility to the Park. We thank all the donors of the previous improvements to the Memorial Park such as the Entrance Marker; Flagpoles; World War II Marker; Korean War/War of 1812/Spanish American War/Civil War Marker; Vietnam/World War I Marker; benches, landscaping, and concrete work.

Monetary donations should be made out to New Glarus Veterans Memorial Park Fund. All donations of any size are welcome from any group, individual, or organization. Please mail to Community Foundation, PO Box 733, Monroe, WI 53566. The New Glarus Veteran’s Memorial Park is part of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin which is a 501c3, entity and therefore all contributions are tax deductible.
