Last fall a group of members of the Belleville Fire Department got together and decided it was time to update the kitchen and dining area of the fire station. The group sat down, worked out a design and a budget and then got to work. The extensive remodeling project included removing and replacing the floors, removing and updating ceiling tiles and installing new cabinetry and painting. The project included the kitchen as well as the dining/meeting room area.

Before construction of a new kitchen at the Belleville Fire Station could begin, the old kitchen had to be taken out.

Volunteer fire departments are known for their member's wide variety of skills and willingness to step up and lend a hand, and the members of Belleville Fire Department met the challenge of the remodel. According to Belleville Fire Department Captain Brady McSherry, a core group of four or five volunteers put in over 100 man-hours each and other members helped as much as they could.  Doing nearly all the work themselves made it possible for the project to finish under budget. Besides doing the work themselves, they utilized sales and rebates and almost any kind of money saving plans they could come up with. All of the money used for the project came from donations.

The old kitchen was dated and closed in. The new kitchen is open and bright with plenty of room to move around. It has a stove and double oven that had been donated by Wolf and Sub-Zero, a commercial dishwasher, a new floor and beautiful cabinets. The project was completed in January of 2018 and the department is enjoying their new space.

The Belleville Fire Department has served the community for over 100 years. The fire district serves the Village of Belleville, Montrose and Exeter townships, and small parts of the townships of Brooklyn and Oregon. The building that houses the department at 33 East Main Street was constructed in 1961, and expanded to its current size in 1991.
