Monroe Clinic is pleased to announce Christine Nelson, MS, AT, ATC, is the new Monroe Clinic Coach of Orthopedics and Care Coordinator for the Joint Replacement Center of Excellence.

Nelson first obtained her Master of Science in Athletic Training from AT Still University in Mesa, AZ, and continued her career in a private orthopedic practice in Kenosha, WI. Her work at Monroe Clinic has allowed her to return to the region she once called home.

"As a previous member of the community, I'm aware of Monroe Clinic's continued growth and thankful for the exceptional care it has provided to my family and friends. I look forward to joining Monroe Clinic Orthopedics and the Joint Replacement Center of Excellence to offer patients exceptional services close to home," said Nelson.

Nelson is an integral part of Monroe Clinic's Joint Replacement Center of Excellence (JRCE) - a revolutionary program that improves the success rate and recovery time for joint replacement surgery patients. She noted the program regularly outperforms the national average for patient satisfaction, recovery times and pain management. A combination of surgical skill, rehab team expertise, extensive patient education and motivational patient coach model makes the Joint Replacement Center unique and successful.

A recent report found 91 percent of Monroe Clinic's joint replacement patients would recommend the healthcare organization to others, which is much higher than the national rate of 72 percent. Other results, collected three months post-surgery, include:

88 percent reported no pain when standing (national average 83 percent)

81 percent stated it was easy to move from sitting to standing position (national average 72 percent)

0 percent experienced surgical complication during hospital stay (national average .5 percent)

Nelson plans to build on JRCE's momentum as an innovative leader in joint replacement solutions while nurturing the caregiver-patient bond.

"Surgery can be intimidating, especially total joint replacement. It is important to create a connection with patients through listening and educating on treatment options. My role as the Joint Care Coordinator in combination with the entire Joint Care Team is to foster that connection throughout the entire process. Not only does this ease the patient's mind and create a better understanding of the recovery process, it ensures that our patients have the best chance to obtain their desired quality of life," explained Nelson.

Monroe Clinic's free joint pain seminars are for individuals who are interested in learning more about treatment options. Nelson will host and identify individualized options for those attending.

Upcoming dates for GOOD NEWS ABOUT JOINT PAIN seminars: June 26, 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., at the Freeport Public Library; July 10, 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., in the ICU Conference Room at the Monroe Clinic; and July 24, 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., at the Freeport Public Library.
