Dedications Scheduled for Veterans Park

The New Glarus Veterans Memorial Park Board is dedicating five more benches on Memorial Day, Monday May 25, 2015. Fundraising is complete for the benches.
Fundraising has started for the Gulf War I/Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial Marker. New Glarus Lions kicked off the fundraising with a $2,000 donation. Please consider donating for this last marker. We are also refining the list of names for this marker, please contact a Board member to confirm names.

New Glarus EMS to Host Keeping the Pulse 5K Run/Walk

The New Glarus Area EMS is pleased to announce we will be hosting the first annual Keeping the Pulse 5K Run/Walk!
Formerly known as the Running of the Swiss, this race will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015, with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. The one-mile Kids Fun Run, for ages 12 and under, will be at 9:00 a.m., with awards going to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for boys and girls; and the 5K Run/Walk will begin shortly after at 9:30 a.m., with awards going to 1st and 2nd place men and women.

New Glarus FCCLA and Jr. FCCLA attend State Leadership Conference

Eleven Jr. FCCLA members and seven High School FCCLA members attended the State Leadership Conference, along with Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers Julie Martin and Monica Schober. Students were actively involved in the conference through a variety of leadership roles. During the conference, students developed leadership qualities, were inspired by the keynote speaker and competed in a wide range of events.

New Glarus Vision Childrens' Book Drive

Join us in our efforts to provide our New Glarus youth with quality books for summer reading. We are looking for age-appropriate books for Pre-K to 2nd graders to be given free of charge to the students at the end of the school year. Please drop your gently used or new book donations at the New Glarus Public Library or the New Glarus Elementary School Office by May 31st.

New Glarus Mathletes Triumph

The New Glarus Middle School Math Team competed at the Regional Archimedes Math Meets in Lake Mills at the end of March.  New Glarus sent two teams of eight students from grades 5-8 to the competitions.  The New Glarus teams competed against seven other teams from area schools, with the top two teams earning eligibility to move on to the Mega Math Meets, where they compete against schools from across southern Wisconsin.

Local Golf Pro Opening Yoga Studio in New Glarus

David Haugh, PGA teaching pro at Argue-ment Golf Course, will be opening a yoga studio offering classes in yoga, tai chi, and mixed martial arts in late May or early June. The location will be in the “backtown” area, at 102 Second Street.
“I’ve passed the building numerous times and often thought to myself, ‘I’d really like to open up a facility offering yoga and other activities in that space,’” said Haugh.

New Glarus Optimists to hold Clothing & Sports Equipment Drive

Starting May 1st through May 10th, the New Glarus Optimists will be collecting outgrown and unused clothes and shoes (newborn on up), as well as sports equipment and other sports items families may not be using any longer and want to donate: i.e., cleats, footballs, rafts, fishing pools etc. and sports equipment.  There will be collection tubs at local businesses, UB&T on State Highway 69 and New Glarus Fitness Center.

Gabriella's at Barnaby's Monticello House Offers Great Food and Warm Atmosphere

On Spring Fling weekend in 2013, Marc and Tabitha Barnaby held a Grand Opening Celebration for Barnaby's Monticello House. Two years later another Grand Opening Celebration will be held to celebrate the addition of restaurant service with Gabriella's at Barnaby's Monticello House. The restaurant fits in well with the relaxed family-style atmosphere of Barnaby's Monticello House.
Shannon Sheflin is the owner of Gabriella's at Barnaby's Monticello House, as well as another restaurant also called Gabriella's in Albany.
