Prepping the Tackle Box for Spring Fishing

If this stretch of warmer weather has you itching for spring fishing, now is a great time to dust off the tackle box and prepare for a great fishing season. Some ideas for a good spring cleaning of your gear:

Dave Mosher & Associates Welcomes Judd as New Employee

Dave Mosher & Associates is pleased to welcome Melanie Judd as a new employee at the agency. Mel will be working as an Account Manager at both the Argyle and New Glarus offices. Her primary duties will include customer service responsibilities and managing and servicing client accounts. Originally from New Glarus and a graduate of New Glarus High School, Mel has most recently held positions with Judd’s Auto Body and the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce, where she gained experience in customer service and helping people with claims.

Towns Association Opposed to Proposal to Eliminate Local Assessment

The Wisconsin Towns Association is adamantly opposed to the proposal in the Governor’s budget to remove property assessment responsibility from local municipalities to county government. According to Lee Engelbrecht, WTA President, “The best decisions are those made closest to the people. This proposal is another Madison mandate to erode this principle that has been tried before and failed.”

Blackhawk Technical College to Offer Summer and Fall Scholarships

Current students at Blackhawk Technical College, as well as those considering attending BTC for the summer and/or fall semesters of 2015, are encouraged to begin preparing their scholarship applications for submission to the Blackhawk Technical College Foundation.
Applications are due May 1st for both incoming and current BTC students. Application forms are available at blackhawk.edu by searching for scholarship opportunities. Current students also may apply at MyBTC.

Self-Identification Required for Green County Fair Pigs

All Green County fair swine exhibitors will be required to self-identify their pigs using the same method that was used in 2014. Exhibitors will be required to tag their own pigs and pull hair samples for DNA testing from each fair pig. The cost of the DNA test kits will be $5.00 per pig. Exhibitors will also be given two RFID ear tags for each animal at no additional cost. DNA test kits and ear tags will only be available for pickup at the Green County Extension Office, 2841 6th St, Monroe. The DNA kits and ear tags will be available for pick up starting April 1, 2015.

On Friday, March 13, 2015, the Board of Directors named Ron Schaaf President and CEO of The Bank of New Glarus and Sugar River Bank Branches, effective immediately. Ron succeeds Phil Whitehead, who served as President/CEO for the past three years.

Courthaus Quilters to Hold Quilt Show

The Courthaus Quilters Quilt Guild and the Monroe High School German and Costa Rica Exchange Clubs will present a quilt show on April 18-19, 2015, at the Monroe High School gymnasium in Monroe, WI, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., each day. This year’s theme is “Threaded Memories.” The event will include a judged quilt show, a display of Civil War Era Quilts inspired by Barbara Bachman, presentations about “The Making of Civil War Fabrics” by Polly Perkins, a merchant mall, gift sales by Guild members, and a quilt appraiser.

The Green County YMCA Gators swim team has had a busy last few weeks! The Gators is a year round YMCA and USA swim team that is made up of swimmers from around the area, including Monroe, New Glarus, Broadhead, Albany and Mineral Point.

Monticello Track and Field Results

On Saturday, March 21, the Monticello track and field team competed in the Tri-State Small School Invite.
Junior Emilie Gietzel, senior Natalie Lehr, and senior Hallie Chicker competed in the girls 55 meter dash. In the girls 200 meter dash, senior Mackenzie Zanow placed 27th while Gietzel and Lehr ran that race as well. Zanow placed 11th in the girls 400 meter dash with a time of 1:10.52 while senior Lilly Blum finished in 38th place.
