Area Businesses Raise Money for New Risers

This past winter, UB&T of Belleville challenged all area businesses to a fundraiser. The Belleville Choral Department was in dire need of new risers and UB&T said they would match funds that the community would donate, up to $2,000. We are happy to say that we reached our goal!

Belleville High School Forensics Team Earns Excellence in Speech Award

The Wisconsin High School Forensic Association held its 120th annual State Speech Festival on the campus of UW-Madison, hosting 4,571 students from 344 high schools across the state of Wisconsin, as well as La Crescent, Minnesota.
Judges rate each student or performing group, and the top five percent of point-earning schools are recognized with Excellence in Speech Awards, with the school and teacher each presented with a plaque. Belleville, along with Coach Susette Alsteens, earned the honor this year.

Money Smart Week at the Belleville Library

Belleville Public Library's littlest patrons heard stories about money, made a piggy bank, and went shopping with five pennies at the Storytime Store last Friday. As part of Money Smart week, they each received a copy of Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday compliments of CBM Credit Education Foundation.

Primrose Lutheran Church Heritage Play

Sunday, May 3, 2015, Primrose Youth will “Tell the Story of Primrose”, at the 9:00 a.m. service. Other special activities are planning, including burying a time capsule and digging up the one that was buried 15 years ago, in 2000. Could you have put something in that time capsule? Three special items will be presented in honor of the 165th anniversary, along with birthday cake and ice cream.

Belleville Students­ Win Writing Awards

Ten Belleville students are Top Ten winners in this year's Yahara River Writers Contest. Sponsored by the Greater Dane County Advanced Learners Network, the annual Yahara River Writers Contest encourages Dane County students in grades 5-8 to create poems, editorials, short stories, and cartoons.
Forty-three Belleville students from grades 5-8 were district submissions to this contest, along with over 2,000 submissions from 26 other Dane County and area districts.

Puempel's Olde Tavern Donates to Badger Honor Flight

Last week Chuck Bigler, of Puempel's Olde Tavern, presented a donation of $1,250 to Badger Honor Flight, noting that he was happy to help out such a great organization.
To help honor veterans who gave so much to this country, Badger Honor Flight offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the monuments that stand in their honor. The trip comes at no cost to the veterans and they are escorted by trained volunteers to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.

Wildcats Split Doubleheader with Cambridge: Lose Game One, Win Game Two

The Belleville baseball team lost a nailbiter to Cambridge on Saturday, April 18, on the road. The final score of the first game of this doubleheader was 4-3, with the loss coming on a two out fly ball to right field that went off the glove of the right fielder.
Belleville had three runs, seven hits, and two errors while the Bluejays earned four runs, six hits, and zero errors.
Starting on the mound was Drew Shrader who went five innings, struck out one, and walked three. Scott Schwoegler then took over for the last two innings.

Raiders Soccer Add Three More Wins

In a busy week of soccer, the Sugar River Raiders were victorious over Stoughton, Wisconsin Heights and McFarland. With discipline, desire and individuals playing well as a team, the Raiders continue to improve. The Raiders have six wins on the season and one loss.
