New Glarus Eighth Grade Boys Basketball Team Takes State Crown

The New Glarus eighth grade boys basketball team brought home the championship hardware from Stevens Point on Sunday night, as they completed a seven-game sweep of competition in the 26-team Division 4/5 level in the Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament. The young Knights edged three-time winner Howards Grove (at grades 5, 6 and 7) in the semi-final game, 41-35, and then bounced back from a near-disastrous first half to win the championship, 55-50, over Iola-Scandinavia.

Hoesly Takes 1st Place in Sausage Scultping Competition

Riley Hoesly won first place in the Sausage Sculpting Competition, 9-12 year old division, this weekend at the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors in Madison.  She created ^Three Billy Goats Gruff (+Troll).^"

GAPP Exchange 2015

It must be Easter - the German students are again in New Glarus. The GAPProgram that was started in 1987 continues in 2015. In 1987, the former German teacher, Linda Hiland, began the student exchange program with a high school in Bad Arolsen, located in the Wisconsin's sister state, Hesse, Germany. Her successor, Emily Zuleger, is continuing the tradition of bringing together students from both countries.

New Glarus Spring Clean Up

Spring Clean-up Day will be held on two non-consecutive Fridays, with the Village being divided into two zones. Zone A will be picked up on Friday, May 15, 2015, and Zone B on Friday, May 29, 2015. A map is available on the Village’s website.
At this time the contractor WILL pick up furniture, and other items not considered being normal residential garbage, refuse or recyclables.  This pick up DOES NOT include tires, e-waste (i.e. TVs, VCRs, computer equipment), medication, remodeling or construction materials.

Monticello High School Post Prom Committee Looks for Help from the Community

The Monticello High School Post Prom Committee works with parents, community members, businesses and organizations to encourage our students to enjoy and celebrate safely and responsibly by hosting a post prom party for all of our high school students. The 2015 Post Prom will be held in the Elmer Lemon Gym on May 2-3, from 11:00 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Entertainment will include outdoor movies and a performance by hypnotist Jeff Michaels.

MAHS Meeting - April 23

The Monticello Area Historical Society general program will be on the Pearls of the Sugar River in Albany, WI.  The meeting is Thursday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m., at Zwingli United Church, 416 East Lake Ave, Monticello, WI. 
The speaker for the evening will be George D. Johnson from Madison, WI, talking on the 1889 American pearl rush and its Sugar River beginnings.
You are welcome to bring a pearl with you and share your story.  Guests are welcome.

Dane County Fair 2015 Theme Announced

The Dane County Fair has announced the 2015 Fair theme: #experienceit.
The theme is a nod to the increasingly online presence of the Fair and the social media idea of sharing your experiences with others. “It is a fun way for attendees to share their Fair experiences with us and other attendees,” said Scott Bentley, Dane County Fair general manager. Fairgoers are encouraged to join in on the conversation by tweeting or posting using the theme hashtag.

Fifth Annual Madison Craft Beer Week Coming May 1-10, 2015

Madison Craft Beer Week (MCBW) will celebrate its 5th anniversary this May 1-10, 2015. Festival organizers are hard at work planning for the 5-year milestone. Over 80 different Greater Madison area restaurants, pubs and breweries will host more than 350 events as part of this year’s MCBW. Craft beer lovers will have the opportunity to choose from a multitude of events, ranging from pub crawls and bike tours to meet the brewer events, beer education classes and beer cook-offs.
