Habitat for Humanity of Green County Spring/Summer Update

It has been exciting spring and early summer for Habitat for Humanity of Green County! Saturday June 6, 2015, we held our 2nd Annual Hike4Habitat Fundraising Event! WIAA Makes Changes to Halves, Adjusts State Hoops Tourney Schedule, and Removes Regionals

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control reviewed and approved a number of committee recommendations for winter sports at its June meeting.
Five of the recommendations made in basketball received Board approval. The most notable replaces the four-quarter game format with a two 18-minute halves for varsity games on a one-year trial basis in 2015-16. Subvarsity games will play two 16-minute halves. 
Another significant Board decision will rearrange the schedule for the boys and girls State Basketball Tournaments next March.

Music in the Park

To all area music lovers!
On July 12, the Soggy Prairie Boys will play for our first Music in the Park program for the 2015 season. It will begin at 6:00 p.m., ending around 8:00 p.m. All area residents and their guests and friends are heartily invited to join us at the New Glarus Village Park. Bring your own chairs or blankets. Doubtful weather conditions will find us relocating at the New Glarus Home Chapel.
This free concert is the result of a grant from the Community Foundation and we hope to see lots of you there.

Vietnam Veterans to Honored

The Vietnam Vets Chapter 3 are planning to honor Vietnam veterans at a rededication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Monticello at Noon on the Sunday of Homecoming, July 12, fifty years from the start of ground troops into the Vietnam war. 
There will be a 21-gun salute, and balloon releases are planned in memory of the MIAs and for the eight Green County men killed in the war.  The Memorial is located at the edge of the Village Parking lot, at Staedtler Avenue and N. Monroe Street. The Veterans are also planning to march in the Homecoming Parade, which begins at 2:00 p.m.

Monticello Homecoming is sponsored by The Monticello Community Club, the Monticello Chamber of Commerce and the Monticello Lions and Lionesses. The Monticello Community Club is a local organization that has been in existence for more than fifty years. The club’s purpose is to make our community a great place to live and raise a family. And our annual Homecoming celebration is the main fundraiser for projects that better Monticello.

Homecoming Pet Parade

On Saturday, July 11, at Noon, there will be a Pet Parade. Pooches will parade up and down the paved path between the shelters and the baseball field. Owners and dogs are encouraged to dress up - bring your friends! This is separate from the big parade on Sunday. Yes, dogs get their own parade, how cool is that!? Contests will be after the Pet Parade. Sign up for one or as many as you’d like!
