Naturally Speaking

Fortunate is a person who has an occasion to see an orchid flower of any color. They are usually rare plants and should be left alone regardless of the kind of protected status they have been given by the state.
The yellow lady's-slipper orchid is described as rare to locally frequent in moist prairies, conifer swamps and upland forests. This plant, with its several varieties, is a Wisconsin plant of special concern, meaning it may need additional protection such as being classified threatened or endangered in the future.

Changes to Heidi Festival This Year

This year there are changes to the annual Heidi Festival. There will be no play this year, and the Craft Fair will be held downtown in conjunction with the Taste of New Glarus on June 27, 2015.
The Heidi Folk Festival is a New Glarus tradition that has continued for over 50 years, due to the hard work and volunteer spirit of many people over the years. This effort continues, but with less people involved in the recent years of the festival.  Plans are to bring the Heidi play back in 2016, with several new cast members in place at that time.
