New Glarus Baseball Loses to Pirates in Regionals

On June 2, the New Glarus baseball team played Waterloo in the first round of regionals with the Pirates the victors, 5-1.
At the plate, Austin Schlueter was one for four, Dalton Way was one for three, Koner French was one for two with a run scored, Andrew Nimtz was one for three; and Hayden Latsch was two for three with one RBI.
From the mound, French hurled the ball the first five innings where he gave up three runs – all earned – on four hits while walking four and striking out one.

Wildcats Upset Deerfield in First Round of Regionals

The fifth-seeded Belleville baseball team faced off against the number one seed Cambridge in the second round of regional play Wednesday, June 3, at Cambridge. The Wildcats lost this matchup, 9-1.
Offensively, John Gorski was two for three; Scott Schowoegler had one RBI; and Gorski scored a run.
Drew Shrader pitched the first four innings for the Wildcats, giving up six runs – two earned – on six hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Sugar River Track and Field Team Members Compete at State Meet

The Sugar River track and field team had 11 people compete in seven events for Division II at the state track and field meet at UW-La Crosse on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6.
In the girls 100 high hurdles, sophomore Krista Diaz took sixth place with a time of 15.85; she earned first at sectionals at 15.54, first at regionals at 15.89, and third at conference with a time of 16.72.

Saengerfest 2015 Guest Performers

Saengerfest 2015 is almost here, and three years of planning will soon give way to camaraderie, music, fun and celebration. This international singing and jodeling festival sponsored by the North American Swiss Singing Alliance (NASSA) and hosted by Männerchor New Glarus, along with the assistance of the Jodlerklub New Glarus and many other volunteers from New Glarus and Green County, celebrates Swiss culture, music and traditions.

FootGolf Event is on Sunday at Argue-Ment Golf Course

Sunday, June 14, 2015, is the Friends of the New Glarus Public Library First Annual FootGolf fundraising event at Argue-Ment Golf Course in New Glarus. This is the rescheduled date. There was a weather situation on the previously scheduled date.
FootGolf, a hybrid of golf and soccer, doesn’t require any experience, and it is fun for all ages and abilities.
Here are the details:
Come anytime from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
No pre-registration required.
Per Person Fee: $25.00 for 18 holes.

Chalet of the Golden Fleece Inventory Project

The next meeting of the Friends of the Chalet will be held on Thursday, June 11, starting at 6:30 p.m., in the Board Room of the New Glarus Village Hall.
The group will be focusing on the upcoming Inventory Project. The collection will be photographed and marked using Barlow’s original manual inventory document.
This is the first time a computerized database of the Chalet’s collection will be created and the Friends are providing a significant amount of volunteer hours to this project.

Lending a Helping Hand

Kaelyn Beckwith has been working very hard to raise money for a family that lost all their outbuildings on their farm a couple months ago. On April 26th, the Bredeson family lost all of their outbuildings, their children's bikes, farm equipment and a number of items it took a lifetime to collect. Marcia Bredeson is a former Blanchardville Fire & EMS member.

Dairy Days Awards Looking for Nominees

The Green County Dairy Days Awards are looking for any AG/Business Women or Couple who are an active part of any agricultural operation or business. The contest is open to anyone who lives and/or works in Green County, as well as having buildings located in the school districts or villages in Green County. Previous winners are not eligible. The contest is divided into three divisions: (1) Women under age 40, (2) Women over age 40, (3) Oldest Active Farm Couple.
