Advance Tickets for Tractor Pull On Sale

Advance tickets went on sale July 27th for the 9th Annual Green County Fall National Tractor and Truck Pull, which will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015. The event will be held at the Green County Fairgrounds with nine classes of trucks and tractors participating from Wisconsin and surrounding states. The pull, sponsored for the eighth year by Washington Implement of Monticello, will begin at 12:00 noon. Back by popular demand, Charm School Rejects, sponsored by Colony Brands and Stone Mill Construction, will begin at 8:00 p.m.

Naturally Speaking

Botanists estimate 30 percent of all plants have hairs on their aerial surfaces. Some of these hairs - they're called trichomes by researchers - can be secretory, others glandular. That's to say they produce, store, and release substances.
Gardeners are familiar with the abundant trichomes on tomato plants, even though the hairs are difficult to see. Pickers' hands smell like tomatoes after a few brushes against these tiny hairs.

Boy and Girl Scouts Receive Fundraising Monies from Spring Tree Sales Program

The Town of New Glarus Parks Commission at their June 17 meeting presented Boy Scout Troop 106 and Girl Scout Troop 2037 with monies earned during distribution of trees from the commission's annual Tree Sale Program. Scout Leaders Tami and David Woerpel, accompanied Boy Scouts Skyler and Brandon Woerpel and Girl Scout Elizabeth Woerpel, at the Parks Commission's monthly meeting in the Town Hall. Both Scout groups assisted the commission with separating, documenting orders and receiving payments during the distribution on Saturday, May 9th.

Next Music in the Park Concert August 9

The second concert in the park was held on Sunday, July 26. Once again the music was enjoyed by many and the weather was ideal for being outside.
Our final concert of 2015 will be held on Sunday, August 9, from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m., with MAUI, Madison Area Ukulele Initiative, leading us in sing-a-long selections.
These free concerts are possible due to a grant from the Community Foundation. Bring your blankets or chairs for seating and lots of friends and neighbors to enjoy the evening. You don't want to miss it!

Heidi Folk Festival Annual Meeting

The Heidi Folk Festival Board of Directors will hold the annual meeting, which is open to the public, on August 10th, at 7:00 p.m., at the Chalet Landhaus Inn, 801 HWY 69, in New Glarus, WI. The conference room reserved for this meeting at the Landhaus is on the second floor. There is an elevator for ease of use, near to the main stairs.

Home delivered meal volunteers are needed for up to one hour delivering meals to homebound individuals on Mondays in New Glarus.

NG Village Board

On July 21, 2015, the New Glarus Village Board met for their regular meeting. At that meeting, Village President Roger Truttmann announced that he was appointing Laci Bainbridge back to the board to fill the Trustee position that had been vacant since she resigned the position in June. The board approved the appointment.

New Glarus Maennerchor to Provide Free Admission to Volksfest

After three years of planning and preparation, Saengerfest 2015 is now complete and guests to the community from Canada, Switzerland and the United States all enjoyed a wonderful festival. The beauty of the area, friendliness of the people, perfect weather and organization were paramount in the success of this event. The Saengerfest 2015 Organizing Committee has received many communications from participants congratulating the community for such a warm reception and experience.

The Swiss Church Cemetery Committee is hosting two free 60-minute walking tours of the historic Swiss Church Cemetery, in the heart of New Glarus. The tours begin at the Swiss Historical Village Cemetery in front of the log church at 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Support the NGFD at FireFest Saturday, August 1st

On Saturday, August 1, the New Glarus Fire Department will celebrate their annual FireFest. The festival has a number of family friendly activities, as well as great food and music. Throughout the day New Glarus Fire Department merchandise will be available.
