Are you ready to…Touch a Life? Make a Difference? Are you 55 years or older and looking for a meaningful experience?

Southwest Wisconsin has a special volunteer program which taps the skills, talents, and experiences of adults 55 and older. The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), a national service program, is celebrating 50 years of service to the nation. Locally, the Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program (Southwest CAP) sponsors the FGP in Green, Grant, Iowa, Lafayette, Richland and Southern Crawford counties.

SRR Swim Team Wins Against Platteville

The Sugar River Rapids swim team faced off against the Platteville swim team on Wednesday, July 8.
SRR won the dual meet, 943 points to 549.
In the girls 7-8 100 meter medley relay, the SRR team took first at 2:23.00 while another team placed second with a time of 2:24.78. Taking third in this event was another SRR team at 2:25.71.
In the boys 7-8 100 meter medley relay, SRR took first with a time of 2:30.20 and took second at 2:47.56.

2015 North American Unicycling Convention and Championships

The Madison Area Sports Commission (MASC), together with Madison Unicyclists Inc. (MadUni), are pleased to welcome the 2015 North American Unicycling Convention and Championships (NAUCC) to Madison this July 25 – August 1. Watch top national competitors throw down gravity defying tricks, play floor hockey, and race in a marathon – all on one wheel! – when hundreds of U.S. and Canadian unicyclists converge in Madison for this out-of-the-box athletic event.

Belleville Bobcat Youth Football, Inc. Equipment Handout

Equipment fitting and handout will be on Sunday, July 19th, and Thursday, July 23rd, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Belleville High School Commons. Any boy or girl who will be in grades 4-8 this fall, and either attends or resides in the Belleville School District can participate. All players must register online before they can receive their equipment. To do so, go to our website at www.bbobcatyouthfootball.com and click on register in the upper right hand corner to start the process.

The poisonous aspects of wild parsnip can be explained in a single word: phytophotodermatitis.
Latin words used as science terms are a shortcut to writing many sentences to say the same. But one has to know a bit of Latin, or the term becomes nonsense.
There are three parts to phyto-photo-dermatitis.  Phyto means plant; wild parsnip in this instance.  Photo means light; sunlight here.  And dermatitis refers to the skin becoming inflamed or blistered when the plant juices and sunlight come together.

Green County Dairy Modernization Tours: August 20th

The UW-Extension, in cooperation with the Green County Milk Quality Council, and with support from Union Bank and Trust and the Bank of Brodhead, will be sponsoring Dairy Facility Farm Tours on Thursday, August 20, 2015. The tours will include seven dairy farms located in the Green County area that have all made modernization improvements to their dairy facilities to increase productivity and animal comfort as well as reduce labor.

New Glarus Village Board

The New Glarus Village Board met on July 7, 2015. Before the board meeting, a Public Hearing was held to discuss an ordinance that would allow the parking of semitrailers on 430 feet of the west side of Hoesly Drive for up to 72 hours. The ordinance would also prohibit parking on a section of the east side of Hoesly Drive. Currently, Hoesly Drive falls under the Village Ordinance that prohibits parking for more than 24 hours on any street.

Tell Wedding Dancers Wanted

The Wilhelm Tell Pageant celebrates our Swiss heritage each year on Labor Day weekend. This will be the 78th year on stage in New Glarus. The Wedding Dancers are an important part of the Tell drama and will dance in two performances. The English performances will take place on Saturday, September 5th at 1:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 6th at 1:00 p.m.

Saengerfest 2015: It Took A Community

After three years of planning and preparation, Saengerfest 2015 is now complete and guests to the community from Canada, Switzerland and the United States all enjoyed a wonderful festival. The beauty of the area, friendliness of the people, perfect weather and organization were paramount in the success of this event. The Saengerfest 2015 Organizing Committee has received many communications from participants congratulating the community for such a warm reception and experience.

Next Music in the Park Concert will be held on Sunday, July 26

After a pleasant evening, pleasant music in the village park, with pleasant memories after our first concert in the park, we look forward to our next concert on Sunday, July 26, 2015, with Moo Grass Band providing the music for our second free concert of the season.
These concerts are possible due to a grant from the Community Foundation. As usual, everyone is welcome. Bring your own chairs or blankets and join us between 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., in the New Glarus Village Park.
Thanks to everyone who made such a large turn-out possible and hope to see you on July 26th!
