Sparks to Perform Saturday Night at the Dane County Fair

Pop superstar, Jordin Sparks, is set to take the stage as the Saturday night entertainment at the Dane County Fair. Main stage entertainment will start at 7:00 p.m., on July 18, 2015, on the Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison stage, presented by local radio station, 93.1 Jamz. Nightly concerts are free with Fair admission.

WSCA Releases 2015 Girls Soccer 'First 11' Team, 'Best of the Rest'

The Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association has released its 2015 Wisconsin High School Girls’ Soccer “First 11” Team and “Best of the Rest.”
Senior goalkeeper Cassidy Lentz, of WIAA Division III state champion Catholic Memorial, and junior forward Dani Rhodes, Waukesha West, highlight the First 11 as the WSCA’s Co-Players of the Year.

2015 Capitol Conference South Softball All-Conference Selections

Belleville senior Taylor Wallom earned a first team all-conference selection as a center-fielder.
Named to the second team was junior shortstop Tara Hanna of Belleville, sophomore catcher/infielder Alli Kowalski of Belleville, sophomore shortstop/third baseman Maya Kramer of New Glarus, and sophomore infielder/outfielder Lydia Sprecher of New Glarus.

WIAA Makes Changes to Halves, Adjusts State Hoops Tourney Schedule, and Removes Regionals

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control reviewed and approved a number of committee recommendations for winter sports at its June meeting.
Five of the recommendations made in basketball received Board approval. The most notable replaces the four-quarter game format with a two 18-minute halves for varsity games on a one-year trial basis in 2015-16. Subvarsity games will play two 16-minute halves. 
Another significant Board decision will rearrange the schedule for the boys and girls State Basketball Tournaments next March.

Madison Area Sports Commission: 2015 Youth Grant Applications

The Madison Area Sports Commission (MASC) is pleased to announce the next cycles of youth grant opportunities are now available for consideration.
Youth grant funds are allocated to established organizations that introduce Dane County youth to the lifelong enjoyment and health benefits of sports. Individuals and groups may be able to apply for grant consideration from now through July 22, 2015.

Tell Wedding Dancers Wanted

The Wilhelm Tell Pageant celebrates our Swiss heritage each year on Labor Day weekend. This will be the 78th year on stage in New Glarus. The Wedding Dancers are an important part of the Tell drama and will dance in two performances. The English performances will take place on Saturday, September 5th at 1:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 6th at 1:00 p.m.

Chalet Inventory Training/Meeting Notice

The next meeting of the Friends of The Chalet of the Golden Fleece Museum will be held Thursday, July 9th, at 6:30 p.m., at the Chalet (618 Second Street).  
The agenda consists of brief updates and training for the inventory project.  This training will include use of the computer/software and the camera.  Persons interested in helping with the inventory project are encouraged to attend.

Time Correction: Music in the Park

To all area music lovers!
On July 12, the Soggy Prairie Boys will play for our first Music in the Park program for the 2015 season. It will begin at 6:30 p.m., ending around 8:00 p.m. All area residents and their guests and friends are heartily invited to join us at the New Glarus Village Park. Bring your own chairs or blankets. Doubtful weather conditions will find us relocating at the New Glarus Home Chapel.
This free concert is the result of a grant from the Community Foundation and we hope to see lots of you there.

Sixteenth Annual FLOG Golf Outing

The 16th Annual FLOG Golf Outing was held at the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club in New Glarus on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
This annual fundraiser event for ladies only involves 9 holes of golf, followed by dinner and a program. There was also a silent auction, raffle and wine pull to raise money to benefit two cancer related charities which support the local community. This year, those charities were Camp Kesem and Chix 4 a Cause. Both are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.

New Glarus Receives Two 'School of Merit' Awards

New Glarus Elementary School and New Glarus High School have been selected by the Wisconsin RTI Center as “Schools of Merit” for work accomplished through their implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Statewide, 165 schools were recognized as “Schools of Merit” for the 2014-15 school year.
