Monroe/New Glarus High School Swim Team Wins First Meet

The Monroe/New Glarus High School Swim Team swam in their first meet of the season on Tuesday, August 23rd, against the Platteville/Lancaster team. The Monroe/New Glarus JV team won, 53-23, and the Varsity team also won with a score of 101 over Platteville/Lancaster’s 69.
“The first meet of the season was an exciting one!” exclaimed Coach Linda Moser. “It is always good to get that first meet under your belt, but this year it was even more important because 12 of the 20 swimmers are swimming this season for the first time on a high school team.”

Sugar River Soccer Loses to DePere

Last weekend, Sugar River Soccer played DePere in the first round at the Waunakee Soccer Tournament, losing to DePere by a score of 1-2.
Brock Kelly, assisted by Jack Gentilli, scored the first goal of the match in the first half, with a shot from outside the 18-yard box.
DePere scored their first goal approximately 10 minutes into the second half, off a Sugar River player that was attempting to clear the ball, but missed and hit it into their own net.

Join the 2016 Green County Alzheimer's Walk

Step forward, give hope and make a difference in the lives of local families facing a dementia diagnosis by joining the 15th Annual Green County Alzheimer’s Walk on Saturday, September 10, at Behring Senior Center, 1113 10th Street, in Monroe.
“In addition to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, the walk is a way for people join together to offer hope and empower one another despite the challenges of this disease,” said Deanna Truedson, Outreach Coordinator for Green, Iowa and Lafayette counties.

New Glarus Bakery Coloring Contest Winners

Earlier this summer the New Glarus Bakery held a coloring contest. Kids could stop by and design a cake. The entries were voted on and then the bakery made the winners cakes with their design on them. The kids were then invited to take their cakes home for their families to enjoy.

Monroe Clinic Offers ^Good News About Joint Pain^"

Joint pain, whether mild or severe, does not necessarily come with age. Finding out the source of the pain can help determine how to alleviate it.
Monroe Clinic will host a free seminar, “Good News About Joint Pain,” on Tuesday, September 13, from 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. The event will take place in the ICU Conference Room at Monroe Clinic, 515 22nd Avenue, Monroe. The conference room is on the first floor of the hospital building.

Swiss Church Hosting Annual Kilby Supper

Mark your calendars! In tandem with the Oktoberfest celebration this year, Swiss Church will be hosting their annual 2016 Kilby Supper on Saturday, September 24th, with food served from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Dining will be at Swiss Church in Fellowship Hall. Carry outs will also be available again this year. Additionally, delivery service is also available for those unable to drive downtown to pick up your meals. Art Fair In New Glarus

The village of New Glarus is a perfect destination for Labor Day weekend.  Head for New Glarus’ Village Park and the 54th annual fine art and craft fair, “Art in the Park.”
“Art in the Park” will take place Sunday, September 4th, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Juried artists will sell their wares, including pottery, paintings, jewelry, photography and more.

Wilhelm Tell Fest This Weekend!

This weekend, the annual Wilhelm Tell Festival will be held in New Glarus. Inspired by the vision of Edwin Barlow, a world traveler of the early 1900′s with New Glarus roots, the Wilhelm Tell pageant has been proudly presented on Labor Day Weekend since 1938 by New Glarus residents. The festival includes the pageant, held at the Wilhelm Tell Grounds on CTH W, east of the village, as well as many activities in the village of New Glarus. A full schedule of events was printed in the <i>Buyer's Guide</i> and<i> Post Messenger Recorder</i>.

Dog Days of Summer Splash

Join Country View Veterinary Service and the Sugar Rapids Swim Team as they present the First Annual Dog Days of Summer Splash at the New Glarus Pool.
Let your dogs have the last splash of the summer on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2016, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. There is a suggested $5.00 Soggy Doggy Donation per swimmer, with all proceeds benefitting the Sugar River Rapids Swim Team.

Book Sale On Sunday

The Friends of the New Glarus Public Library Annual Book Sale will take place on Sunday, September 4th, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the New Glarus Village Hall.
Our book sale includes children’s books, adult fiction and non-fiction books, DVDs and music CDs.
This book sale, along with events and membership donations, raise the funds necessary for the Friends to support our library’s facilities and services that are beyond the scope of the library staff and its budget.
