Caregiver Resources for Veterans and Their Spouses

The Green County Caregiver Coalition is excited to announce that they will be hosting a special speaker, Margaret Flood, VA Caregiver Coordinator at their annual meeting. Veterans, their families, and professionals working with Veterans are all invited to attend.The meeting will be held on Thursday, December 8th, from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m., at the Monroe Clinic Café Rooms 1, 2 and 3. <strong>Lunch is included, please RSVP by calling the Aging and Disability Resource Center at (608) 328-9499 by Monday, December 5, 2016.</strong>

2016 Holiday Mailing and Shipping Deadlines

The New Glarus Post Office has announced the 2016 holiday mailing and shipping deadlines for domestic and international destinations as customers begin to prepare for the busy shopping and shipping season. Customers are encouraged to ship early.
“To ensure timely delivery of cards, letters and packages during the holidays within the United States by December 25th, the Postal Service recommends that customers ship early this year,” said New Glarus Postmaster Ann Marty. The Postal Service recommends that customers ship their items by the following dates:

Hardwood Trees for Planting This Spring 2017

As you look at the beautiful fall foliage, recollect how it is created. The colors are created by the trees. If you would like to create more foliage or diversify the color, or just add to it, you can stop by the Green County Land & Water Conservation Department. The Department is offering 10 varieties of trees and two varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting trees next spring 2017. The tree varieties are Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple, Black Cherry, Basswood, Tamarack, White Pine and Harbin Pear.

With the first half of the season quickly coming to a close, two players had plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Rick Skindrud and Jeff Goebler (Kleeman’s) became the only players thus far to record a perfect score. I was led to believe this was quite a shock to the rest of the team, given Rick’s struggles the past few weeks. With Rick and Jeff’s help and the 16-point loss by the Norsk-Cowboys to Jones’ Plumbing, Kleeman’s Hay-Shakers retook sole position of first place when they handed New Glarus a 30-point shaking.

New Glarus Girls Begin Season With One Win and Two Losses

The New Glarus Knights girls basketball team, coached by Kim Burton, played their first game on November 15th at home against Argyle. The Knights won, 69-48, against the Orioles.
Devon Boll poured in 21 points, including four 3-pointers, leading the Knights in scoring. Willow Lee put 17 points on the board and had 15 rebounds. Julia Barnaby scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds.
On November 18th, the Knights traveled to Poynette to take on the Pumas. The Pumas won, 73-49.

Belleville Girls Defeat Poynette

The Belleville Wildcats girls basketball team played at Lakeside Lutheran on November 18th, losing 50-60.
Rachael Heittola led the Wildcats with 14 points. Grace Schulting scored 12 points and Lucy Grady pout 8 points on the board.
The Wildcats hosted the Poynette Pumas on November 22nd, winning 74-58.
Grace Schulting poured in 22 points for the Wildcats, leading the team in scoring. Krista Diaz put 20 points on the board and Rachael Heittola scored 10 points.
The girls travel to Lodi on December 1st and will host Pecatonica on December 5th.

Avalanche Suffers Tough Loss Against Edgewood

The Madison Edgewood Crusaders hosted the Monroe Avalanche Co-op hockey team on Tuesday, November 22nd. Monroe lost to Edgewood, 1-13.
“It’s always hard with a loss like this. Edgewood is always a good team and even if we have the numbers this year, it’s still a young team. There were some good things that happened tonight and the first 7-10 minutes were really promising,” said Coach Josh Smith.
Jared Dillon, assisted by Jeremy Kolasa and Jared Cline, scored Monroe’s only goal late in the second period.

Monticello Boys Lose to New Glarus

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team traveled to Highland on November 22nd to take on the Cardinals. The Ponies lost, 44-56.
Early in the first half, the Ponies tied the game at 7-7, but Highland went on a 13-0 run to go up by 13. The score at the half was Highland 34, Monticello 17.
With 11:02 to play in the second half, the Ponies cut the deficit to 9 points, but the Cardinals came back with a 15-2 run and put the win out of reach, even though the Ponies outscored the Cardinals.
