The Kindness of a Stranger

Dear Editor,
The kindness of strangers always takes me by surprise and leaves me feeling more connected to humanity at large.
Melissa Schmidt (I’m not even sure how to spell her last name, honestly, and we have never met in person) heard through the grapevine that I was hunting for wheat to grind fresh flour. I couldn’t seem to find anyone who carries wheat this time of year.
I wanted wheat so desperately that I was calling all over and bugging random people.

Sugar River Euchre

Wow, last Thursday night provided quite the start to the second half of the season. There was a 111-point thrashing in one match, while another required a tie breaker round be played. It was the match between S’wisco Taphaus and Hooterville where the Express systematically shredded the Cheese Eaters by 111 points. Hooterville won 24 of the 32 games, and six of the eight rounds. The only highlights for the Cheese Eaters came from the compelling determination wielded by Ed Wettach and Kendal Wenger, who stopped two Hooterville Express couples from putting up perfect scores.
