Belleville Public Library's Building Campaign Gets Boost with $30,000 Grant from Madison Community Foundation

The Madison Community Foundation has awarded a $30,000 Community Impact grant to the Belleville Public Library. The funds will support the “It Takes a Village” capital campaign for a new Library and Community Center.

Holland Wants Citizens to Vote Yes on We The People Referendum

Dear Editor,
Corporations Are People?  Money is Speech?  Politicians For Sale?  How did our Democracy get into this mess?
The “We The People” referendum April 3rd, in Green County, attempts to clarify the effect of money on our political process.
The governing document of our country is the United States Constitution.  The Constitution is essentially a contract between CITIZENS and their country, listing the rights of The People.  Corporations. unions, and nonprofit entities are never mentioned in the Constitution regarding human rights.

As I think nearly everyone is aware, Big Money—not the needs of the American People—controls the outcome of our national and statewide elections.  On April 3rd, Green County residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinion on whether that should continue.  On the County ballot will be the question of whether:
1. Only human beings not corporations, unions, nonprofits or other legal entities are endowed with constitutional rights, and

Belleville Police Department Establishes Fund

Dear Editor,
The Belleville Police Department/Belleville Police Association has established a fund to assist us with year-round community events such as the Bike Rodeo, Cops and Bobbers, and National Night Out/Public Safety Day. This fund also helps the Department participate in the “Shop with a Cop” program before Christmas, and other special events.
If you wish to participate by making a donation to this fund, checks can be made out to the “Belleville Police Association” and sent to the Belleville Police Department, PO Box 79, Belleville, WI 53508.

Sugar River Transit Coming to an End

Effective March 31st, 2018, the Sugar River Transit taxi service will no longer be in service. This project started in October 2016, and after careful consideration, the ADRC came to the conclusion to stop the service. This service initially ran on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and offered a taxi like service to residents of Monticello, New Glarus and Belleville. For the final five months, we lowered the service days to only Tuesdays. Even though we have to stop this service, we do not look at this as a failed attempt.

ALVIN C. KVAMME

Alvin C. Kvamme, age 68 of rural Belleville, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at his home. He was born on November 20, 1949, in Monroe to his parents, Casper and Lola (Anderson) Kvamme.

UB&T Offers Free Paper Shredding in April

Clean out your files and gather your personal documents – Union Bank & Trust Company will provide free paper shredding during the month of April. UB&T offices in Belleville and New Glarus will have secure paper collection bins available. On-site shredding will be done by Pellitteri Data Destruction. A collection for your local food pantry is also being held. Please consider bringing donations of nonperishable food items and personal hygiene items when you visit the bank offices.

Wake Up Call: Stairway to Heroin

Your Choice Prevention Education, in affiliation with Rosecrance, will be presenting a Stairway to Heroin Educational Series on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at the Belleville High School Auditorium located at 635 W. Church Street in Belleville. This program is for adults 21 years of age and older.
