Skatrud Announces Bid for Green County Sheriff

Dear Editor,
After 34 years of full-time law enforcement, almost 32 of which were spent serving Green County, I made the difficult decision to retire as Green County Sheriff in 2013. My family was happy to have my undivided attention as our parents began to face the challenges associated with becoming elderly.

Green County Livestock Facility Study Group Sends Report and Recommendations to County Board

The Green County Livestock Facility Study Group will present its report and recommendations to the Green County Board at its May 8th meeting. At this meeting, the County Board will vote on whether or not to accept the report and recommendations for consideration. If the County Board votes yes, the relevant county committees will then begin to look at the recommendations. The report and recommendations can be viewed online at https://green.uwex.edu/livestock-facility-study/.

Local Severe Weather Safety and Spotter Classes to be Held

Green County Emergency Management announces that local severe weather/tornado spotters’ classes will be held Monday, April 30, 2018. The first class will be at 12:30 p.m., at the Monroe Fire Dept. #1 at 601 W. 17th Street (by Badger State Ethanol), with next class at 6:30 p.m., at the South Wayne Fire Dept. at 107 E. Center Street, South Wayne. Tim Halbach, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, will be instructing the classes.

Maggie Mae Concert to Benefit Brooklyn Veteran's Memorial

The Brooklyn Oregon American Legion is sponsoring the third annual Maggie Mae Concert to benefit the Brooklyn Veteran’s Memorial. To obtain reserve seating tickets call (608) 516-5401. The concert will be held at the Oregon High School Performing Arts Center, located at 456 N. Perry Parkway in Oregon, on Saturday, April 28, 2018, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Following the Patriotic Concert by Maggie Mae, there will be a Military Tribute Video.

The Glarners Go to Birmingham

Twenty-three New Glarus students traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, during their spring break to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. They worked on five different houses in Birmingham, doing work including hanging drywall, tiling bathrooms, insulating and cleaning. On their final work day, they transformed the entire exterior of their new friend Ms. Duncan's house, prepping and painting it, as well as repairing the porch.

Belleville Forensics Team Excels at State Competition

The 2018 State Forensics Competition was held at UW-Madison on April 20th.
Nine students scored 25 out of 25-Gold. Five students scored 23-24 out of 25-Silver. Four students scored 22-18 out of 25-Bronze.
Coaches Mrs. Alsteens and Mrs. Jenkins are very excited with all students' results.  It was a fabulous night for Belleville High School Forensics!!
We say a fond farewell to our seniors, Noah Fahey, Elisa Woods, Taylor Vesperman, and Owen Benash.  Thank you for your time and talent.

The Monticello Junior Class bid Aloha to everyone who attended their Luau themed Prom held on Saturday April 21st, 2018. Prom King was Cole Femrite and Prom Queen was Amber Mercado.

BENJAMIN D. JACKSON

Benjamin David Jackson, 20, was killed in a motorcycle accident on April 13, 2018, in Misawa, Japan.
Ben was born June 1, 1997, in Chesapeake, VA, and grew up in New Glarus, WI. He graduated from New Glarus High School in 2016. Ben participated in several sports, including cross country, baseball and golf. He loved snowboarding with his brother and friends.

State FCCLA News

Congratulations to Claire Klossner, Sarah Blumer (not pictured), Seth Culberson and Evan Rufer for receiving silvers on their Star event completion at the State FCCLA Convention.  Claire and Sarah have advanced to Nationals in June, at Atlanta.  Claire Klossner was also elected to serve on the State Council again this year.  This will be Claire's third year as council member. Way to go everyone!
