BEATRICE H. POPE

Beatrice H. Pope, age 100, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Meriter Hospital in Madison. She was born on March 14, 1918, in the Town of York, rural Blanchardville, one of ten children to Benhard and Helga (Anderson) Jeglum. Bea attended the Meadow View School and then began working in many homes in the area until moving to Madison to work at Qualite Laundry. On August 10, 1943, she was united in marriage to Emory Pope at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. Bea farmed with her husband in the New Glarus/Blanchardville area and also worked at the New Glarus Home.

April 23 is the Fifth Annual National Lost Dog Awareness Day

On April 23, the U.S. will celebrate its fifth annual National Lost Dog Awareness Day (NLDAD). This canine-focused awareness day was created by Lost Dogs of America to bring attention to the multitude of dogs that go missing from their homes, each and every day, while providing resources and hope to reunite them. This day and these efforts to reunite lost pets with their owners is a tribute to the human-animal bond.

Is it Apruary...Sprinter...When Will We See Spring?

According to the National Weather Service, the first full week of April was slightly more than 15 degrees below normal. Weather forecasters are predicting that we may get into the upper 50s toward the end of this week -- finally!

Green County Fair Market Lamb and Goat Weigh-In

An identification program for all market lambs and goats to be exhibited at the 2018 Green County Fair will be conducted on Saturday, April 21st, at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe. Market lambs and goats will be weighed and identified between 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., in the south end of the show barn. Only market lambs and goats that are identified on this date will be eligible for exhibition in the market lamb and goat classes and to sell at the Green County Fair Meat Animal Auction.

Green County Herds Recognized for Milk Quality

Green County dairy producers are well recognized for producing the high-quality milk that results in the production of some of the finest cheese in the world. Dairy farms are unique because efforts to produce a high-quality product must occur every day. The success of our dairy industry has been built on the consumers’ confidence in the quality of our dairy products. The top Green County dairy herds will be recognized at the upcoming Annual Green County DHI Membership Luncheon for producing high quality milk based on their somatic cell count (SCC) levels.

Blackhawk Students Shine at Post-Secondary Agricultural Student Competition

Blackhawk Technical College's chapter of the Post-Secondary Agriculture Students Organization (PAS) cleaned up at the most recent Wisconsin PAS competition, earning 21 total award certificates including seven total first place finishes and four second place honors.  The strong showing qualified 15 BTC students to attend the national conference in Louisville, Kentucky. 
Brianna Sheehan, Orfordville, earned three individual first place spots in the three different categories, including Impromptu Speaking, Prepared Speaking and Dairy Production/Employment Interview.
