The #2 Sugar River girls soccer team played a Regional Semifinal game against #15 Adams-Friendship on May 31st at home. They shut out the visitors, 11-0.

Summer Supper and Dairy Queen Crowning

The Women’s Guild of Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, is sponsoring their annual Summer Supper on Friday, June 8, 2018, from 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., in Fellowship Hall. The church is located at 416 E. Lake Avenue, and is handicapped accessible.
The menu includes Barbecues, Brats, Potato Salad, Deviled Eggs, Fruit Pies, Angel Food or Chocolate Cake, Strawberry or Chocolate Sundaes, Ice Cream and Beverages. Items are priced separately and carry outs are available.

Students Raise Over $650 For Green Cares

Members of the Monticello 6th grade class raised over $650 for the Green Cares Food Pantry by organizing an elementary and middle school Penny War and running a garage sale as part of the school's 2018 Community Day of Service.  Pictured with the students is Green Cares representative, Bob Voss.

Engineering Team Places Second in the State

The Belleville High School team of Dylan Gratz, Nate Mabis, and Jared Schulting placed 2nd in the state of Wisconsin at a May 30th Engineering Design Competition banquet on the campus of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Gratz, Mabis, and Schulting created a multi-sport target prototype as part of Mr. Neumann's Engineering Design and Development course. They submitted their work through Project Lead the Way's Innovation Portal.

Kenneth A. Smith, 73, of Prescott, AZ, formerly of Monroe and McFarland, WI, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018 in Prescott. Kenny was born on September 8, 1944, in Monroe to Richard M. and Ruth Bissig Smith.

Cheese Days Prince and Princess Named

Tyse Hoesly and Lauren Stelter have been selected as the 2018 Green County Cheese Days Prince and Princess.  The pair was chosen from among nearly 40 local youth who applied back in May and participated in interviews on Saturday, June 2nd, at the Historic Green County Courthouse.
Tyse is the son of Dusten and Brooke Hoesly of New Glarus.  Lauren is the daughter of Matt and Anita Stelter of Monroe.  The children will join King and Queen Gordy and Ruth Bergemann and Ambassador Tess Zettle in promoting the festival, slated for September 14-16, 2018.

The Bank of New Glarus&reg; and Sugar River Bank Branches Donates $15,000 to New Glarus Public Library Capital Campaign

On Thursday, May 24th, the Bank of New Glarus&reg; and Sugar River Branches gave a $15,000 donation to the New Glarus Public Library Capital Campaign. The donation brings the Capital Campaign closer still to the $1,000,000 needed by the end of 2018 to receive the match from the Village of New Glarus.

Downtown Area Road Closures During New Glarus' 29th Polkafest

The New Glarus Roger Bright Polkafest, one of the community’s longest running festivals, will draw visitors to downtown New Glarus from Friday, June 8th through Saturday, June 9th. In addition, the 2018 Beer, Bacon & Cheese Fest will be held on Saturday, June 9th, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Polkafest hours are as follows: Friday, June 8th, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 9th, from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Please make note of the following road closures prior to traveling around downtown New Glarus during Polkafest weekend:

New Glarus Fire Department Hosts Training Day

On Saturday, June 2, 2018, New Glarus Fire Department hosted a training day at a house on Valley View Road in the Town of New Glarus.
Firefighters from the New Glarus Fire Department, Belleville Fire Department and Monticello Fire Department could practice their skills during the training session.
