Organic Dairy Farm in Monroe Hosts 'In Her Boots' Workshop For Women Farmers

While the number of farms in the U.S. has been on the decline for many years, the number owned and operated by women is on the rise, according to the USDA Census of Agriculture. The Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) supports these women farmers with on-farm “In Her Boots” workshops; the first workshop of the 2018 season is Thursday, June 21st, at Wylymar Farms, an organic dairy in Monroe, run by farmers Emily and Brandi Harris.

Single Oak Farm Country Garden Stroll

The Single Oak Farm Country Garden Stroll, 1051 State Road 92, Verona, will be held on Sunday, June 24th, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Come and enjoy an afternoon at a country garden with bars and cookies and beverages as you wander about. Homemade pies will be auctioned off and silent auction items will be available for your bidding. If you’d like to donate a pie and/or silent auction item, it would be greatly appreciated.

Woofstock 2018

Bring your pop and your pup and get your groove on for a good cause! Swing in solo, bring your friends, cool daddio or four-legged fur kid to the Wisconsin Brewing Company, located at PB and American Way in Verona, on June 17 (Father’s Day), from 1:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., to help the homeless pets at Green County Humane Society and help save a great group of pups from a high-kill shelter down south that has more dogs than space. The Jimmys and the Chris O’Leary Band will be performing.

Ten Students Earn Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee Scholarships

The Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee is proud to support 10 local students through its scholarship program. The program recognizes students who are residents of Dane County and pursuing post-secondary educations in an agriculture-related field. Recipients of this year’s $1,000 scholarships are Emily Matzke, Sauk City; Dylan Herbrand, Dane; Faith Majors-Culp, Oregon; Grace Link, Deerfield; Gaelan Combs, Verona, Kim Keller Mount Horeb, Hailey Schulenberg, Mount Horeb; Devin Brown, Belleville; and Alison Kinnaird, Cambridge.

Seeking Nominations for Farm/Agri-Business Women and Oldest Active Farm Couple

Monticello is hosting the 2018 Green County Dairy Days and the committee is seeking nominations for the Green County Dairy Days Awards. The contest is open to any AG/Business Woman or Couple who are an active part of any operation or business. The contest is open to anyone who lives and/or works in Green County, as well as having buildings located in the school districts or villages in Green County. Previous winners are not eligible.
The contest is divided into 3 divisions:
Agri-business Woman under age 40
Agri-business Woman age 40 and over

Belleville To Host Bastille Day Lakefest on July 14

This year, for the first time, Belleville will host Bastille Day Lakefest, an event that combines Belleville Lakefest and the Storm the Bastille 5K Run/Walk annual events. Bastille Day Lakefest is a unique festival that will celebrate Lake Belle View, the Community Park amenities, Main Street and the town’s French Heritage. The festival will offer nature shows, promote health and wellness and encourage community connections. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Belleville Community Health Improvement Project and the Belleville Community Assistance Program.

4-on-4 Champions

The boys were the 8th grade 4-on-4 champions at the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Father/Son Camp held on June 8-9.  Also part of the winning 4-on-4 team were the boys' fathers, Rod Clark, Mark Douma, and Tim Loomans.

BMAP Summer 2018 Potluck Excursion

Join the Blue Mounds Area Project for a tour of a beautiful prairie and oak savanna restoration with 25 years of management at the property of Jim and Betty MacDonald, 8596 Sunnyside Road, Blanchardville, at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, June 21st.  
The tour starts at 6:30 p.m., and is followed by a potluck dinner. Free and open to the public. BMAP will be supplying the brats, beer and fixings, you bring a dish to pass.
Future tours are scheduled for July in New Glarus and August in rural Argyle. More info at www.bluemounds.org.
