Wisconsin American Legion Firefighter of the Year

Jon Durst, a member of the Stuessy-Kuenzi New Glarus Post #141, was presented a plaque to recognize him as the American Legion Department of Wisconsin's Outstanding Firefighter of Wisconsin for 2018 at the American Legion Department Convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Making the presentation was the Department Commander, Laurel Clewell.

Local Fire Departments Lend A Helping Hand

Members of the New Glarus and Belleville Fire Departments worked together to staff the DeForest Windsor fire district on Saturday, July 14th, so that all of their members could attend the funeral for fallen Sun Prairie Fire Department Captain Cory Barr.
Barr died in the line of duty on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, from injuries received while responding to a gas leak in downtown Sun Prairie, and was a member of the department for 16 years.

Photography Contest Celebrates 29 Years

For the 29th consecutive year, Monroe Arts Center (MAC) announces details for the upcoming Photography Contest and Exhibit.  The contest is open to non-professional photographers and participants are not required to be Wisconsin residents.  Photographs entered in this contest will be on exhibit in MAC’s Frehner Gallery from August 31, 2018 through October 19, 2018.  An opening reception for this exhibit is scheduled for Friday, August 31, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with an awards presentation at 6:00 p.m.

Area Youth Attend 4-H Youth Conference at UW-Madison

Isabella Carnes, Jackie Nusbaum, Katie Nusbaum, Lorelei Pagett, and Royce Brauer, all from Green County, were part of hundreds of 4-H youth who attended the 98th annual 4-H & Youth Conference at the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus June 25-28. This group of outstanding individuals joined about 400 other young people representing UW-Extension’s 4-H Youth Development program in celebrating the 98th anniversary.

Yellowstone Lutheran Church to Celebrate 150th Anniversary

The Congregation of Yellowstone Lutheran Church in rural Argyle/Blanchardville is holding a special celebration on July 15, 2018, to commemorate their 150th anniversary as a church.  A church service will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a catered community meal.  Special music with include the Point Brass band, combined choir, and soloists.  A display of quilts and other artifacts and sale of commemorative items are planned.  Individuals will be available to help in the location of the gravesite of a loved one.  A golf cart will be available for those with limited mobility.  Afternoon mu

Registration Deadline for 4-H Day Camp Approaching

The 2018 4-H Day Camp will take place at the Green County Fairgrounds, 2600 Tenth Street, Monroe, on Saturday, August 18, 2018, from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and is led by Green County UW-Extension 4-H Youth Development staff.  The event is for any youth going into 1st-3rd grade (2018-2019 school year), and they do not have to be a member of 4-H to participate.

Cyclists Work-Up Appetite at New Glarus on July 21, 2018

Saturday morning, July 21st, the MadCity Velo Club will host the New Glarus Time Trial on our country roads north of town.  This is a specialized bike race in which the athletes compete individually against the clock.  The first cyclist starts at 9:00 a.m., at the intersection of 2nd Street and 1st Avenue.  The time trialers are released every 30 seconds and must ride solo for the entire course.  The route goes out on County Road O/G, turns left onto Hustad Valley Road and turns left onto Pioneer Road.  When cyclists come to the intersection of Pioneer and County Road O, they turn left to d
