Zimmerman of UW-Whitewater Track and Field Named All-Academic

Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus and graduate of New Glarus High School, is one of 12 members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater track and field program to be acknowledged by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in the organization’s 2018 NCAA Division III All-Academic Honors.
Zimmerman is majoring in Accounting at UW-Whitewater.
In addition, the women’s team was recognized as an All-Academic Team after posting a 3.27 cumulative grade point average through the 2018 spring semester.

Marty Bags Record Setting Turkey

While hunting with a friend outside of New Glarus in May, Monticello-native Heath Marty nabbed an Eastern Wild Turkey that broke the Wisconsin record and two national records.
The turkey, which weighed in at 25 pounds, 6 ounces, had six beards ranging between 11 3/16 inches and 3 5/16 inches. The grand score was 132.75, which almost doubled Wisconsin's previous record, beat the national eastern (wild turkey) record by almost 35 points and the overall national record by 12 points. Heath received a certificate from the National Wild Turkey Federation and a pin.

Free Physicals for Uninsured High School Athletes

Each year, almost 100,000 students participate in high school athletics in Wisconsin. Of those living in Dane County, it’s estimated that two to five percent lack health insurance to pay for the one thing the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association says they must have before they can even step on the field or the court to practice: a basic sports physical.

Swiss Lanes Fastpitch Softball Reunion

Swiss Lanes Fastpitch Softball held a reunion On Saturday, July 21st, at Puempel's Olde Tavern in New Glarus. Twenty-three former players attended and a good time was had by all. Swiss Lanes fastpitch softball played in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Town of Brooklyn Receives Loan

The Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL) approved a State Trust Fund Loan totaling $150,000 to the Town of Brooklyn to finance roadwork. 
The Board approved loans totaling $1,971,959.67 at today’s meeting. They include:
Town of Brooklyn, Green County/Finance roadwork/$150,000
Town of Rutland, Dane County/Finance capital equipment and roadwork/$140,000
Village of Elk Mound, Dunn County/Purchase skidsteer/$40,000
Town of Holland, La Crosse County/Finance fire truck/$286,959.67

Belleville Police Department To Host National Night Out

Belleville Police Department is hosting National Night Out in Community Park, 1 Bross Circle, on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. One of the goals of National Night Out is to strengthen neighborhood spirit and partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the community.
There will be food, a bounce house for the kids, law enforcement dunk tank (DUNK A COP), and vehicle displays by several public safety agencies. A local K-9 team will provide a demonstration, Mounted Patrol will be on scene, and MedFlight is scheduled to land.

New Glarus Music in the Park

The Music in the Park series will continue for the summer of 2018, due to a grant from the Community Foundation. 
The popular Ukulele group, MAUI, performs the final concert of the season on Sunday, August 12. 
All concerts will be in the New Glarus Village Park and begin at 6:30 p.m.  Watch for weather relocation information the day of the concert.  Mark your calendars, dust off your chairs, or shake out the blankets, and be ready to be entertained.  Looking forward to seeing you in the park.

Country View Veterinary Service of New Glarus Achieves High Level of Veterinary Excellence

Country View Veterinary Service of New Glarus has achieved the highest level of veterinary excellence following a thorough evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Country View Veterinary Service of New Glarus earned AAHA accreditation recently after a rigorous review of the hospital’s practice protocols, medical equipment, facility and client service.
Unlike human hospitals, not all animal hospitals are required to be accredited.

Downtown Area Road Closures During New Glarus Firefest and Alphornman Triathlon

The New Glarus Firefest and Alphorn Triathlon will draw visitors to downtown New Glarus from Saturday, August 4th through Sunday, August 5th.
Please make note of the following road closures prior to traveling around downtown New Glarus during Firefest/Alphorn Triathlon weekend.
<strong>Saturday, August 4th – Firefest: </strong> 4th Avenue (between 2nd and 3rd Streets) will be closed from 9:00 a.m. until Midnight (12:00 a.m.).

Volksfest Celebration Showcases Swiss Heritage

On Sunday, August 5th, the Männerchor New Glarus will be hosting the annual Volksfest Celebration. Volksfest celebrates Swiss Independence and the birth of the Swiss nation achieved in 1291. The events of that time became the Wilhelm Tell story and are the basis for our celebration. Volksfest continues to honor our community and its Swiss heritage through music, food and folklore.
