BMAP Summer 2018 Potluck Excursion

Join the Blue Mounds Area Project for a tour of Bob and Caroline Laeser’s property at 15673 Apple Grove Church Road, Argyle, on Thursday, August 16, 2018. This 277-acre property includes planted prairies, diverse woodland habitats and stream restoration work along the Mud Branch of the Pecatonica.
The tour starts at 6:30 p.m., and is followed by a potluck dinner. Free and open to the public. BMAP will be supplying the brats, beer and fixings, you bring a dish to pass.

New Glarus and Belleville Police Departments to Crackdown on Drunk Motorists

The New Glarus and Belleville Police Departments will be out with other law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin and the rest of the nation for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown on drunk drivers from August 17 to September 3, which includes the Labor Day weekend.
Drunk driving is entirely preventable. If we can deter people from getting behind the wheel when they’re not sober, we will make progress toward the goal of reaching zero preventable traffic deaths in Wisconsin.

Annual Book Sale to Be Held September 2nd

“It was a dark and stormy night...” begins one of the most ridiculed book openings of modern literature. Boy, am I glad I was able to buy other books at the Friends of the New Glarus Library’s book sale on Labor Day weekend last year. The other books looked better than that one.

The Belleville Area Cares Coalition invites you to watch <i>Zootopia</i> in Belleville’s beautiful Library Park on Tuesday, August 21st. The movie begins at 7:45 p.m., and snacks and drinks will be provided. <i>Zootopia</i> is rated PG and is one hour and 48 minutes long.

Belleville Police Department Hosts National Night Out

Belleville Police Department is hosting National Night Out in Community Park, 1 Bross Circle, on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. One of the goals of National Night Out is to strengthen neighborhood spirit and partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the community.
There will be food, a bounce house for the kids, law enforcement dunk tank (DUNK A COP), and vehicle displays by several public safety agencies. A local K-9 team will provide a demonstration, Mounted Patrol will be on scene, and MedFlight is scheduled to land.

Monticello Area Historical Society to Hear About Erie Canal Travel

“Coming to Green County on the Erie Canal” will be the focus of the August 23 meeting of the Monticello Historical Society.
Duane H. Freitag of Greendale, Wisconsin, will do an illustrated presentation on how the famed canal was used by European immigrants in the 1800s as they traveled from New York City to Milwaukee and on to Green County.

Belleville 2018-19 School Registration

In-person registration for the 2018-19 school year will be held next Wednesday, August 22nd (3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.), and Thursday, August 23rd (8:00 a.m.-Noon), at Belleville High School. Please enter through the high school office doors on the south side of the building.
All families planning to attend Belleville Schools this year should plan to attend one of these dates.

Multi-Generational Band Opens Madison Jazz Society Fall Concert Series

The opening concert of the Madison Jazz Society’s fall concert series will take place on Sunday, September 9, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, 2969 Cahill Main, Fitchburg. The Reuben Ristrom Quintet from Minneapolis will perform.
MJS President Linda Marty Schmitz said, “We are excited to present this group that features two father/son combinations. We are dedicated to ensuring the future of jazz and presenting a group whose senior members have passed their love of jazz on to their children fits right in with that purpose.”

Application Process for 2018 Archery Limited Access Permits

The application process for 2018 Dane County Parks Archery Limited Access Permits has begun. This year, 185 Limited Access Archery Permits will be available.  Archers can submit an online application from Monday, July 30, 2018, through Tuesday, August 21, 2018. This program provides opportunities for archers to hunt deer and turkey on specific county lands with the required State licenses. The program includes approximately 5,200 acres of county lands:
