Know a nonprofit that focuses on families, education or the environment? Invite them to apply for a grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation.
The Foundation is accepting grant applications August 1st through September 1st. Grants average about $2,000, and winners will be notified by November 1st.

New Glarus Music in the Park - Final Concert for the Season

The Music in the Park series will continue for the summer of 2018, due to a grant from the Community Foundation. 
The popular Ukulele group, MAUI, performs the final concert of the season on Sunday, August 12. 
All concerts will be in the New Glarus Village Park and begin at 6:30 p.m.  Watch for weather relocation information the day of the concert.  Mark your calendars, dust off your chairs, or shake out the blankets, and be ready to be entertained.  Looking forward to seeing you in the park.

Beal Honored for 50 years of Service

Brad Beal, of Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus and Becker-Beal Funeral Home in Belleville, recently received a plaque for 50 years of service as a Funeral Director. The award was given at the Wisconsin Funeral Director's Association Convention at Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, WI, and Brad was one of three funeral directors in the State to achieve this milestone in 2018. Brad has been serving the New Glarus and Belleville communities since 1968.

Swiss Historical Village and Museum Has New Mural

The Hall of History at New Glarus' Swiss Historical Village &amp; Museum now has a new mural to complement the one created by Paul Grossenbacher in the 1970's. Grossenbacher, an influential member of the New Glarus Historical Society Board for many years, originally created two murals of the Swiss landscape but over the years one of the murals became damaged beyond repair. Thanks to a grant from the New Glarus Community Foundation, funds were available to hire artist Emida Roller to create a new mural.

Zwingli UCC Brotherhood Steak Fry

On Saturday, August 11th, from 4:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m., the Zwingli Brotherhood Men’s Group will be grilling tasty 12 oz. Rib Steaks to your order. The steaks will be served up with fresh sweet corn, hashbrown potatoes, coleslaw, roll and the most delicious assortment of homemade desserts. They are also serving a kids meal with a hot dog.
Proceeds from the dinner will support Zwingli and Monticello Youth Programing and Scholarships.
The women’s quartet, “One Achord,” will be sharing pop chart hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Police Citizens Academy Graduates

Kristen Christen, Mike Christen, Traci Graves, Darlene Kennison, and Lee Stock were awarded plaques on July 31, 2018, in recognition of completing the Belleville/New Glarus Police Citizens Academy. The goal of the program is to increase understanding among area residents and law enforcement.

FREDERICK J. ZURFLUH

Frederick J. Zurfluh, age 79 of Albany, died on Monday, July 30, 2018, at the Monroe Clinic. Fred was born on July 17, 1939 in Monroe, the son of Frederick Joseph and Wilma Katherine (Spring) Zurfluh.
