Skatrud's Challenge to O'Brien

Dear Editor,
A couple of weeks ago, Patrick O’Brien of New Glarus posed a number of questions in a letter to the editor concerning my candidacy for Green County Sheriff. In response, I would challenge Mr. O’Brien to ask questions that are specific to the Office of Sheriff.
I’d be glad to answer how we carefully considered every expenditure and finished each year under budget.

Landmark Praises Business and Property Owners

Dear Editor,
Just want to give a “Shout out” to all downtown New Glarus business and property owners who make New Glarus so beautiful. Not only are your store fronts polished and pretty, the back and side alleyways are also clean and attractive. The carillon bells at Swiss Church have been updated and check out the stained glass windows as they are being restored. Special thanks to the Peters who have updated and sided the old hardware store, and the Dregers for the Fest Haus, they both add so much to the park setting and community!

Swiss United Church of Christ Announces New Fundraising Event

Dear Cemetery Friends and Supporters,
Normally we stop in and visit you around this time of year to ask for donations and sponsorship for the annual Swiss Church Cemetery fundraiser “Dying to Golf”.
This fall we are adding a smaller scale, family-friendly miniature golf event that will include refreshments and a 50-50 raffle. Hans Lenzlinger has graciously donated the facilities at Swissland Mini Golf for our use.

Tschudy Gives Praise to Dregers

Dear Editor,
A big hats-off to Randy and Sherry Dreger, for the job they’ve done renovating the former New Glarus Lumber Company property into the newly established Fest Haus. Walking into the Fest Haus and seeing that the interior as we knew it, big beams, wide siding boards all remain intact, giving visitors a great look at what a small town lumber yard looked like in years past.

Dear Editor,
Congratulations to Randy Dreger,
Your private investment, creativity and ingenuity in developing the Fest Haus has enhanced our community.
Where the gods of government wouldn’t attempt to place the library at the former lumber yard site, you have succeeded.
You were not flooded out by the January or July floods of Durst Road and Third Avenue.
When the 2018 Tell play was put off because of rain soaked grounds, you provided a great alternative site even though abbreviated. So too, covering for the Shooting Park afterglow for the cast and crew.

DOROTHY A. ZORN

Dorothy A. (Lichtsinn) Zorn, age 92, died on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the New Glarus Home. She was born January 7, 1926, to Walter and Flora (Dreier) Lichtsinn in Hammond, Indiana, where she spent her early years, with five sisters and two brothers, and graduated from Hammond High School.
Dorothy continued her studies at Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Illinois, graduating in 1947. She began a 70-year marriage to Herbert (Herb) Zorn, a recently ordained Lutheran minister, on August 3, 1947.

Wilhelm Tell Festival Goes On With a Little Help From Friends

Since 1938, the story of Wilhelm Tell has been celebrated on Labor Day Weekend in New Glarus. Since 1953, the presentation of the play was held at the Tell grounds, east of the Village of New Glarus on CTH W. This year the weather was uncooperative with heavy rain Saturday morning, causing the cancellation of the play. On Sunday, the Tell Board met at the Tell Grounds and decided that for the safety of the cast, animals, visitors and grounds the play could not be held there.
