Resilient Farms Conference Will Help Farmers Explore Ideas for Creating New Revenue

Faced with lower milk and commodity prices, many Wisconsin farmers are looking to diversify and add new revenue streams. Towards that end, Compeer Financial and University of Wisconsin-Extension have planned to host the Resilient Farms Conference, a one-day conference for farmers interested in exploring new business ideas for their farms.

Sugar River Euchre

With just two weeks left in the first half, only the Cowboys and Hay Shakers have a chance at a spot in the 2019 championship match for this half. With a Cowboy bye this week, and one for the Hay Shakers next week, the Cowboys were ecstatic to get a win over the Jones Plumbing Pipe Benders on November 15th. At a minimum, the win assured the Cowboys of a first half playoff match and an excellent chance of winning the half outright.

Knights Dominate Ponies in Season Opener

The New Glarus Knights boys basketball team started their season off with a big win over the Monticello Ponies on November 24th, at home. Up 32 points at the half, the Knights went on to win the game 92-48.
Jaden Kreklow was the top scorer for the Knights, with 27 points. Zach Feller scored 19 points and Connor Siegenthaler scored 12 points.
Leading the Ponies in scoring was Reece Rufer with 17. Jeffrey Ace scored 10 points and Peter Gustafson scored 7 points.

Wildcats Defeated By Blue Devils

The Belleville girls basketball team played at Lodi on November 20th. Down by 19 at the half, the Lady Cats lost the game, 30-51.
Jenna Shrader led the team in scoring with 11 points, while Ava Foley scored 8 points and Jade Halvensleben scored 4 points.
Belleville hosted Poynette on November 27th and will play their next two games on the road – Wisconsin Dells on December 6th and Columbus on December 11th.

Monticello Boys Win Season Opener

The Monticello Ponies hosted Orfordville Parkview on November 20th.
After taking a 10-1 lead in the first three minutes, the Ponies held on to a 33-30 halftime lead. Orfordville briefly got ahead of the Ponies in the second half, but Monticello went on a 15-2 run to regain the lead. Orfordville tied the game up four separate times, but the Ponies scored 7 points in the last minute to win it, 61-54.

Lady Ponies Score Big Win Over Johnson Creek

The Lady Ponies played at Johnson Creek on November 19th, winning the game 63-20.
Coach Mark Gustafson stated, “Balanced scoring with 10 three-pointers made by the Ponies.”
Alyssen Noriega led Monticello with 17 points, while Miah Brokopp scored 13 points and Mackie Errthum scored 8 points.
The team played at New Glarus on November 24th, will host Madison Country Day on November 29th and will play at Barneveld on November 30th.

American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program

High School students in Green County are invited to complete in the Annual American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program.
The High School Oratorical Scholarship Program has the full cooperation of Wisconsin school officials. The Posts and Green County Contests will be conducted at Monticello High School on January 6, 2019. Orientation for contestants will begin at 12:30 p.m. Scholarship awards will be earned by the winners and runners-up at each phase of the competition. The winner of the National contest earns an $18,000 scholarship.

Village of New Glarus Nomination Procedure For Running For Village Offices

Candidates for local office in the Village of New Glarus can begin circulating Nomination Papers on December 1, 2018. The Spring Election will have the Village President and three Trustee positions up for election. Incumbents whose terms end in 2019 are: Village President Roger Truttmann, and Trustees Peggy Kruse, Barb Anderson, and Anthony Edge.

Adventsfensters to Line the Streets of New Glarus

This December, downtown New Glarus will be decorated with a life-size Advent Calendar. Every evening, from December 1st through December 24th, one window will be unveiled. Many locations will offer treats, beverages, music and specials the night of their unveiling.
Adventsfensters are common in the smaller towns and villages in Switzerland, and New Glarus resident Jacqueline Judd wants them to become a yearly feature during the holidays in New Glarus.
