Holiday Spirit in New Glarus With Adventsfensters

Beginning December 1st, downtown New Glarus was decorated with a life-size Advent Calendar. Every evening, through December 24th, one window was unveiled. Many locations offered treats, beverages, music and other surprises for the night of their unveiling.

Three Waters Reserve Conducts Prescribed Burn

The Southern Wisconsin Land Conservancy conducted the first prescribed burn on the Three Waters Reserve, near Brodhead on the Sugar River in Green County, on Wednesday, December 18.
The burn activity signals another site preparation activity necessary for the early spring planting of native prairie and savanna species that are part of the long-term restoration plan for the property.

Naturally Speaking

Brilliant, lime-green watercress can be that winter pause. Just seeing life, sometimes frost-covered, hearing the running, bubbling water, and the warm touch with an ungloved hand will bring a thought of warmer, brighter days.

Hardwood Trees for Planting Spring 2019

It’s cold outside, so think warm thoughts like spring time. A nice warm spring activity is tree planting. The Green County Land & Water Conservation Department is offering 11 varieties of trees and three varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting trees next spring.

Green County Market Steer/Market Heifer Weigh-In

The annual Green County Market Steer/Heifer Weigh-In will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Equity Livestock, located south of Monroe at N1365 State Road 69, from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the snow date will be Saturday, January 5th. An announcement will be made over WBGR radio prior to 8:00 a.m. on the morning of December 29th if the weigh-in will be re-scheduled due to inclement weather.

Darlington Hands New Glarus First Loss of the Season

On December 17th, the New Glarus Knights boys basketball team played at Barneveld. With a 44-16 halftime lead, the Knights easily won the game, 85-49.
Leading New Glarus in scoring was Jaden Kreklow, with 23 pints. He also had 1 rebound, 5 assists, and 7 steals. Trevor Gassman scored 14 points and had 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal and Garrett James had 12 pints and 3 rebounds.

Ponies Lose to Belleville and Black Hawk

The Monticello Ponies played at Belleville on December 17th. The Wildcats led at halftime by 5 points and even though the Ponies were never able to take the lead during the game, they hung in there until the very end. Despite their perseverance, the Ponies lost the game, 54-60.
Peter Gustafson led the Ponies in scoring with 17 points, he also had 9 rebounds. Reece Rufer scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds, while Jeffrey Ace scored 10 points.
