^Winter Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over^" Traffic Campaign"

The New Glarus and Belleville Police Departments will be out with other law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin and the rest of the nation for the “Winter Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunken drivers from December 14 through New Year’s Day.
Drunken driving is entirely preventable. If we can deter people from getting behind the wheel when they’re not sober, we will make progress toward the goal of reaching zero preventable traffic deaths in Wisconsin.

New Glarus Farmers Market Holiday Stock Up Sale

On Sunday, December 16th, the New Glarus Farmers Market will hold a Holiday Stock Up Sale at the New Glarus Fest Haus, 106 3rd Avenue, New Glarus, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. The sale is expected to have produce, meat, eggs, baked goods, jellies, honey, pickles/ferments, fibers, crafts and much more.

Sugar River Euchre

No matter what the Riley Shufflers did, they just couldn't shake the Norsk Cowboys from the saddle. The Shufflers led the match through the first seven frames but in the final frame the Cowboys sat tall, gaining 21 points over the Shufflers to win by 16. Dean Disch and Bob Darrow loaded 111 bullets into the Cowboy's holster while Roger Olstad and Ferdie Schmitz loaded another 110 rounds. With the win, the Cowboys remained undefeated and were crowned winners of the first half. The Cowboys will meet the second half winners in the championship match in March.

New Glarus Girls Wrap Up Tough Week With a Win

The New Glarus Lady Knights had three road games last week, beginning with Lodi on December 4th. The Knights were behind at the half, and lost the game 32-61.
“We only got to the free throw line seven times,” said Coach Kim Burton. “Didn’t do a good job of attacking the basket and struggled shooting.”
Jaylynn Benson led the team with 14 points and 4 rebounds while Lily Himmelmann scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds.

Belleville Boys Lose to Wisconsin Dells

The Belleville boys basketball team hosted Wisconsin Dells on December 7th. Wisconsin Dells was up 43-20 at halftime and even though they only outscored the Wildcats by 2 points in the second half, Belleville lost the game 56-81.

Knights Come Back From Halftime Deficit to Beat Mauston

The New Glarus Glarner Knights played just one game last week, in Wisconsin Dells at JustAgame Field House against Mauston. The teams were pretty even in scoring in the first half, and Mauston held a slim 2-point lead over the Knights at the half. However, New Glarus outscored Mauston 41-29 in the second half to come out on top, winning the game, 76-66.
During the game, Jaden Kreklow became the all-time leading scorer in New Glarus boys basketball history, breaking Larry Retrum’s record of 1,317 points (Retrum graduated in 1995). Kreklow currently has 1,337 points.

Monticello Girls Win Two at Home

The Monticello girls basketball team hosted Wayland Academy on December 3rd. After a 41-point halftime lead, the team went on to win the game 80-29.
Alyssen Noriega led the team in scoring, with 22 points, while Harley Disch scored 13 points and Abby Wicker and Lindsey Pence both scored 10 points each.
On December 6th, Monticello hosted Pecatonica. With a 13-point halftime lead, the visiting Vikings could only put 7 points on the board in the second half to the Ponies’ 34. Monticello won the game, 57-17.

Monticello Boys Open Conference Play With a Win

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team played at Juda on December 4th. The Ponies were ahead at halftime, 27-19, and held on to their lead to win the game, 66-52.
The Ponies overcame an early Panther’s lead in the first half. Juda finished the first half and began the second half with a 9-0 run, closing Monticello’s lead to 3 points but the Ponies persevered and won the game.

Belleville Girls Lose to Wisconsin Dells

The Belleville Lady Wildcats played at Wisconsin Dells on December 6th. The Wildcats lost, 44-63.
Rachael Heittola led the team in scoring with 19 points, while Jade Halvensleben, Sophia Grady and Ashley Hanson all scored 6 points each.
Belleville played at Columbus on December 11th and will host Monticello on December 17th and Cambridge on December 21st.

Five Sugar River wrestlers placed in the top three at their home tournament, the Raider Scramble, held Saturday, December 8th in New Glarus.
