Capital City Trail Open

The Capital City Trail is now open between Nob Hill Road and Fish Hatchery Road, following the completion of a 6.5-mile pavement restoration project.
The pavement restoration project was the first major upgrade to the trail since it opened in 2000, and was the first phase in a multi-year, multi-phase effort by Dane County Parks to improve the safety and ride of approximately 10-miles of the Capital City Trail.

Sugar River Euchre

It is official, no matter what happens on December 6th in the match between the Riley Shufflers and the Norsk Cowboys, the Cowboys have already secured their spot in the 2018/2019 championship match to be held in March 2019. Kleeman’s were in a must win situation last week to stay in contention with the Cowboys but found it impossible to shake the River Rats from the hay. Rats Jack Gehin and Gordie Miller nested 113 points while teammates Jim Gehin and Kurt Beutel added another 110 to the Rats’ total. But, the highlight of the match was the delivery of this season’s first skunk.

Pumas Slash Wildcats

The Belleville Lady Wildcats hosted Poynette on November 27th. Despite having a 23-17 lead at halftime, the team couldn’t keep up with Poynette’s scoring in the second half and lost the game, 45-52.
Rachael Heittola led the Wildcats in scoring with 21 points, while Sophia Grady scored 10 points and Jade Halvensleben scored 5 points.
The team plays at Wisconsin Dells on December 6th and at Columbus on December 11th before heading home to host Monticello on December 17th.

Wildcats Take Down Panthers

The Belleville boys basketball team hosted Juda on November 26th. Ahead by 16 at the half, the Wildcats pulled out a 73-41 victory.
Leading the Wildcats in scoring was Royce Clark with 18 points. Clark also had 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Kody Fahey scored 11 points, had 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal, Sawyer Fahey chipped in 10 points and had 1 rebound, 3 assists, 4 steals and 1 block and Austin Fahey scored 5 points, and had 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.

Monticello Pulls Out Win Against Madison Country Day

On November 27th, the Monticello Ponies boys basketball team hosted Madison Country Day. The visiting team was ahead by one point at halftime, 28-27.
“We found ourselves down 10 with about 13 minutes to play, but we settled down offensively, picked up the intensity defensively, and finally made free throws down the stretch to pull out a 5 point win,” said Coach Mark Olson.
The final score was Monticello 58, Madison Country Day 53.

Monticello Girls Win Two in a Row

The Monticello girls basketball team hosted Madison Country Day on November 29th. With a halftime score of 36-9, the Ponies easily claimed a victory over the visiting Prairie Hawks, who only scored 2 points in the second half. The final score was Monticello 70, Madison Country Day 11.
Alyssen Noriega poured in 23 points during the game for the Ponies while Harley Disch and Abby Wicker both chipped in 11 points and Miah Brokopp scored 9 points.

Sugar River Raiders Compete in Black Hawk Invitational

The Sugar River Raiders wrestling team hosted a Dual against Pecatonica/Argyle on November 29th. The final score of the dual was Pecatonica/Argyle 60, Sugar River 15.
In the 120 lb weight class, SR's Joe Quaglia lost by decision to Noah Krahenbuhl.
In the 126 lb weight class, SR's Matthew Loshaw lost by fall to Christian Orloff.
In the 132 lb weight class, SR's Avery Lettman lost by fall to Dakota Doescher.
In the 138 lb weight class, SR's Cade Femrite lost by fall to Chevy Hughes.

Knights Continue Undefeated

The New Glarus Glarner Knights hosted Dodgeville on November 30th. Up by 22 points at the half, the Knights came out victorious, with the final score of 92-54.
“Jaden Kreklow became the all-time school leader in career assists tonight in the win,” said Coach Travis Sysko. “He passed former Glarner Knight Wade Torgeson.”
Kreklow was the leading scorer for the Knights, pouring in 30 points and was 5 for 6 from the free throw line. Zach Feller and Mason Martinson both added 13 points apiece to the win.
