Open Enrollment Application Period Begins February 4

Parents and guardians can apply to send their children to any public school in the state through the Wisconsin Public School Open Enrollment program.
The online applications period for the 2019-20 school year opens February 4, 2019, and runs through April 30, 2019, with applications available on the Department of Public Instruction website at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment.

Beekeeping Workshop Presented by the Sugar River Beekeepers

Lady Wildcats Defeat Cambridge

The Belleville Lady Wildcats played at Cambridge on January 25th. Belleville led by 13 at halftime and were able to defeat Cambridge to win the game. The final score was Belleville 61, Cambridge 49.
Pouring in 21 points for the Wildcats was Rachael Heittola, while Jenna Shrader scored 13 points and Sophia Grady scored 12 points.
The team played at Marshall on January 29th, will host Wisconsin Heights on January 31st and will play at Potosi on February 2nd.

Ponies Score Big Win Over Vikings

The Monticello girls basketball team played at Pecatonica on January 24th. The Ponies won and the final score was Monticello 50, Pecatonica 33.
Leading the Ponies in scoring was Alyssen Noriega with 23 points, while Abby Wicker scored 13 points and Alexa Siegenthaler scored 6 points.
On January 26th, the Ponies played Weston at Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. After leading 38-12 at the half, the Ponies went on to win the game. The final score was Monticello 63, Weston 21.

Wrestlers Win on the Road

The Sugar River wrestlers competed at Brodhead/Juda on January 22nd, and won 35-30.
Joe Quaglia (120 lbs) won over Brodhead/Juda's Russell Waeffler. Sugar River's Avery Lettman (126 lbs) won over Mario Reyes. Cade Femrite (138 lbs) lost to Brodhead/Juda's Jayson Starr. Sugar River's Robert Chenoweth (145 lbs) won over Brian McCollough. Rudy Wicker (152 lbs) lost to Brodhead/Juda's Jackson Hauri. Sugar River's Jack Diederich (160 lbs) won over Cole Hoesly. Lance Varney (170 lbs) lost to Brodhead/Juda's Blaine Berget.

Belleville Boys Victorious Over Cambridge

The Belleville boys basketball team hosted Cambridge on January 24th. The Wildcats led at halftime, 29-18, and went on to win the game. The final score was Belleville 60, Cambridge 52.
Austin Fahey led the team with 19 points, while Sawyer Fahey and Jaydon Winker each scored 12 points.
The Wildcats will play at Marshall on January 31st, host Wisconsin Heights on February 1st and will play at Palmyra-Eagle on February 5th.

Lady Knights Suffer Loss to Marshall

The New Glarus Lady Knights hosted Marshall on January 25th. New Glarus trailed by 11 at halftime and were unable to pick up their scoring in the second half. The final score was New Glarus 33, Marshall 61.
Lexi Krause scored 9 points to lead New Glarus, while Jaylynn Benson scored 8 points and Emily Streiff and Lily Himmelmann each scored 4 points. The Lady Knights play at Waterloo on January 31st, head to Cambridge on February 5th and will host Wisconsin Heights on February 8th.

Knights Win Two on the Road

The New Glarus boys basketball team played at Cuba City on January 21st. The Knights were leading at halftime, 35-20, and continued that momentum throughout the second half to win the game. The final score was New Glarus 68, Cuba City 50.
Mason Martinson led the Knights with 22 points, while Jaden Kreklow scored 18 points and Trevor Gassman scored 10 points.

New Glarus Village Board Tables Room Tax Discussion

The New Glarus Village Board met on Tuesday, January 15, at 7:00 p.m. In the public comment section, Brianna Lenzlinger spoke in opposition to the proposed increase in the room tax. Lenzlinger said she had spoken with a bus company who told her that hotel prices are an important factor in determining where they will stay on the trips.
