Fire Destroys Barn Near Monticello

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21st, a barn fire was reported at the Waelchli residence on Krueger Road in Monticello. According to Monticello Fire Chief Kevin Komprood, the barn and its contents were a total loss, with a value of $140,000. There were no animals housed in the barn and the cause was thought to be electrical in nature. Assisting the Monticello Fire Department were departments from New Glarus, Albany, Monroe, Juda and Evansville, along with the Monticello Police Department and the Green County Sheriff's Department.

Roboknights Team Quantum Immobilizers Compete at First LEGO League State Championship

On Saturday, February 23, 2019, the New Glarus Roboknights team Quantum Immobilizers competed at the First LEGO League State Championship as one of the 36 top teams in Wisconsin. They researched the problem of bone deterioration in microgravity and developed an innovative solution for producing artificial gravity while exercising the lower body and combating both motion and homesickness using virtual reality. They were able to collaborate with other FLL teams, area professionals and even some NASA scientists to solve problems and improve their prototype.

Hands of Change Youth Service Project

A new after school program sponsored by Zwingli United Church of Christ has begun serving Monticello and Green County. Each Monday afternoon, youths grade 6 and above are invited to come help make our community a better place. Hands of Change is a program that focus on the joy of helping others. Each week participants are picked up by volunteers at Monticello School, given a snack and transported to a service site. Each Monday Monticello schools are in session, HOC travels to a different place to serve.

MFCC Paint Night

Join us for a fun night of painting on Thursday, March 21st, at 6:30 p.m., at TnD's. Signs by Caitlin are offering many signs to choose from, including spring themes of Easter and baseball. You can even paint a sign of your pet! The registration link is available on the Monticello Schools website or find it on Facebook on the MFCC page or in the Monticello Schools group. American Family Children's Hospital Fundraiser A Success

A HUGE THANK YOU to our basketball teams, Elementary School, local businesses, community and WI Heights Basketball teams/fans for a successful American Family Children's Hospital fundraiser! The Belleville Sports Boosters donated concession stand profits and matched the donations received at the games on February 1st. In total, we donated $3,500 to the Child Life Program, along with 15 tie blankets and over 450 crayons, books and coloring books for children who stay at the hospital. What an AMAZING community we live in!!

Nomination Period Open for Organic Advisory Council

The Wisconsin Organic Advisory Council has five openings for individuals interested in shaping the future of organic farming and food in Wisconsin. Nominations are due March 14, 2019.
The five openings include seats in each of the following categories: organic farmer (two), business, consumer, and at-large. Members serve three-year terms, and the council meets quarterly.

The Green County Master Gardeners will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., at the Green County Justice Center, 2841 6th Street, Monroe, in the Multi-Purpose Rooms. Meetings usually include speakers or tours for learning and are open to the public to attend.

Monticello's Track & Field Takes Team Traditional Fundraising ^To the Mats!^"

The most unique fundraising concept to come along in a very long while is quickly gaining popularity across the country. National organization, Custom Fundraising Solutions, creator of “The Mattress Fundraiser”, has given back over $40 million dollars to schools across the country. On Sunday, March 31st, the Monticello High School is taking traditional fundraising to the “mats” by hosting their own Mattress Fundraiser to raise money for the Track & Field Team.
