Monroe Clinic Volunteers Scholarships Available

Giving back from fundraising efforts, the Monroe Clinic Volunteers are once again offering scholarships for students seeking a career in a health-related field. The volunteers award four $500 high school senior scholarships and five $1,500 collegiate scholarships to area students. <strong>The deadline for application submission is February 28, 2019.</strong> Applications are available at monroeclinic.org/volunteers. Monticello 2019 Homecoming Court

Monticello High School will hold their Homecoming Dance on Saturday, February 9, 2019, from 7:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. The theme is Winter Wonderland and the Grand March will take place at 7:30 p.m.

<strong>Sam Houston State University Announces Fall 2018 Dean’s List</strong>
<strong>Kristofer Miller</strong>, Monticello, has been named to the Dean’s List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.0 in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours are named to the list.

Monticello Fire Department Puts New Truck into Service

On January 26, 2019, the Monticello Fire Department put into service its newest addition to the truck fleet, a 1999 Pierce Dash Engine, replacing a 1989 Custom Fire Engine. The Department tries to use a 30-year replacement cycle for its fire and rescue trucks so the department formed a committee in January of 2018 consisting of Fire Chief Kevin Komprood, Assistant Chief Shane Luchsinger, Assistant Chief Jason Eyler, Captain Ron Blumer, Firefighter Casey Klossner, and Firefighter Brian Grossen.

Belleville Students Compete in Scripps National Spelling Bee

This past month, Belleville Middle and Elementary School students participated in the Scripps National School Spelling Bee.
At the elementary level, twenty-five classroom finalists from grades 4th, 5th, and 6th participated in the spelling bee on Wednesday, January 16th. Shannon McCall, a fourth grader, was the Elementary School champion and Olivia Fox, a fifth grader, was our runner-up.
