Monticello Chamber Featured Business for April: Greenwoods State Bank

The Monticello Chamber surprised Greenwoods State Bank with a cheese tray on Friday, April 5th. Greenwoods State Bank was founded in 1884, and is headquartered in Lake Mills. Greenwoods State Bank currently has locations in Monticello and Evansville. At the end of April, Greenwoods State Bank will open a new branch in Waukesha. In addition, the recently-announced acquisition of Fox River Financial Corporation is expected to close in May. At that time, Greenwoods State Bank will have seven branches located throughout south central and southeastern Wisconsin.

Monticello Lioness Club Donates to Green Cares

Monticello Lioness Jeri Wendler (left) presented Bonnie Friedrich with a $250.00 check recently from the Monticello Lioness Club. The Lioness Club has been helping to support the Green Cares Food Pantry for many years. We are more than willing to help out.
The Lioness Club's next service project is to sell flowers for Green Haven on May 10th and 11th, at Monticello Village Hall. Then we will be having the food stand at the Lions Shelter for the Spring Fling event held on May 18th.

Belleville Elementary Students Celebrate Money Smart Week

On Wednesday, April 17th, students at Belleville Elementary celebrated Money Smart Week with the 6th Annual Big Read. The morning started off with Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld stopping by to read <i>Count on Pablo</i>, a story that focused on counting and using the supplies at your disposal to make money. After the story the kids were given some gifts donated by local partners to start them on their road to a money smart future.

Board Approves Football-Only Conferences

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control passed a statewide football-only conference realignment proposal and supported a raise in ticket prices for Sectional and State Tournaments at its April meeting.

Lady Ponies Lose to Barneveld

The Monticello Ponies softball team hosted Barneveld on April 15th. The final score was Barneveld 15, Monticello 7.
Lindsey Pence was 1x3 while Alexa Siegenthaler was 1x3 and Katelyn Eyler was also 1x3.
Harley Disch pitched for 5 innings striking out 2. Miah Brokopp pitched 2 innings and struck out 1.
On April 16th, the Ponies headed to Argyle. The final score was Argyle 9, Monticello 1.
Sarah Blumer was 2x3, while Katelyn Eyler and Hannah Zanow were 1x3.
Pitcher Harley Disch struck out 2.

Ponies Lose to Barneveld

On Monday, April 15th, the Monticello/Albany Ponies baseball team played at Barneveld and lost 0-12 in 5 innings.
On April 16th the Ponies hosted Argyle. In the 5th inning, the Ponies were ahead by 2 runs, but Argyle tied it up in the 6th and scored a run in the 7th to win the game by 1 point. The final score was Monticello/Albany 4, Argyle 5.

Monticello Track Competes at River Ridge

The Monticello track team competed at River Ridge on April 16th, where the men placed 3rd and the women placed 4th.

In the 100M dash Pete Gustafson placed 4th.
In the 200M dash Pete Gustafson placed 4th and Wade Noriega placed 8th.
In the 400M run Lucas Heiser placed 6th, while Sam Allard placed 7th and Wade Noriega placed 8th.
In the 800M run, Simon Blohowiak placed 2nd while Sam Allard placed 5th and Lucas Heiser placed 7th.

Raiders Win Over Cambridge/Deerfield

The Raider girls varsity soccer team started off week six with a 7-1 record. They played against a tough Evansville team on Monday the 15th, ending with a 0-0 tie. Sugar River had 2 saves and Evansville 7.

Knights Lose to Brodhead/Juda and Edgewood

On April 15th, the New Glarus Knights baseball team hosted Brodhead/Juda and lost, 0-12.
Brodhead/Juda scored all 12 runs in the first 3 innings of the game.
Ben Melvin went 2x2 at bat while Peyton Mendleski was 1x1 at bat.
Ben Melvin, Holden Latsch, Brennan Butler and Eli Zimmerman shared pitching duties.
On April 16th, the Knights hosted Cambridge, losing 3-7.
The game was tied at the end of the 1st inning, but Cambridge kept putting players across home base and New Glarus wasn't able to recover.
