Monticello Track Team Competes in Cuba City

The Monticello Ponies track team competed at the Christopher Becker Memorial Invite in Cuba City on Thursday, April 25th. The men’s team finished in 13th place and the women’s team finished in 12th place.

Monticello Falls to Potosi

The Monticello Ponies softball team played at Juda/Albany on April 23rd and lost, 1-7.
Hannah Zanow, Jacy Rufer, Harley Disch and Katelyn Eyler were all 1x2 at bat, while Lexi Graber was 1x1 at bat.
Harley Disch and Miah Brokopp shared time on the pitching mound with Disch pitching 3 innings striking out 1 and Brokopp pitching 3 innings, striking out 1.
On April 25th, the Ponies played at Potosi. They lost in 4 innings, 7-12.
Hannah Zanow was 2x2 at bat, while Claire Klossner, Lindsey Pence, Katelyn Eyler and Lexi Graber were all 1x2 at bat.

Ponies Win Against River Ridge

The Monticello/Albany Ponies baseball team were only able to play one game of a scheduled double header against Belmont on April 22nd, due to lightning. The Ponies lost the first game, 2-14.
On April 23rd, they lost to what Coach Scott Smice called “a good Belleville team,” in a back and forth contest. The final score was Belleville 8, Monticello 4.
On Friday, April 26th, the Ponies traveled to play a double header at River Ridge. The Ponies lost the first game, 8-18.

Raiders Soccer Remains Undefeated in Conference Play

The girls varsity soccer team had two matches this past week to take their record to 9-1-2, and remain undefeated in conference standings.
Their first game was against the 5th ranked Spartans of McFarland, and ended in 0-0 tie. A big game for the girls as not getting beat was huge! Rachel Heittola had 9 saves for Sugar River and McFarland had 4.

Fire Departments Battle Blaze in Mount Vernon On Saturday

On Saturday, April 27, 2019, a structure fire was reported in the Town of Springdale on Davis Street (Mount Vernon). The Mount Horeb Fire Department, along with mutual aid from New Glarus, Barneveld and Verona, extinguished the fire, which did spread to an adjacent property. The structure was an abandoned house, and according to a report furnished by Mount Horeb Deputy Fire Chief Jennifer Minter, the fire is suspicious in nature. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries reported.

Dog Wash Fundraiser

As part of their 8th grade social action project, the students have decided to hold a dog wash on Saturday, May 4th, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., in the back parking lot of the school by the shop at 334 S. Main Street in Monticello.

Remember Me Red Run Fundraiser Raises Alzheimer's Awareness

Register today for the first annual Remember Me Red Run! The 5K run will start at Bailey’s Run Vineyard, N8523 Klitzke Road in New Glarus, at 10:00 a.m. on May 11.
This is an event for a cause close to the heart of local winemakers Janet and Todd Kuehl, who opened Bailey’s Run Vineyard in May 2018, and named it after their beloved dog, Bailey. The winery, built high on a ridge on the outskirts of New Glarus, provides a fantastic venue for enjoying wine and views of the Wisconsin countryside.

2019 New Glarus Farmers Market

The New Glarus Farmers Market plans to open on Friday, May 10th. The location stays the same as last year, in the parking lot of the New Glarus Hometown Pharmacy at 1101 State Highway 69 and the market has new hours for the 2019 season, from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
The New Glarus Farmers Market is a vendor operated group whose purpose is to contribute to the success of their local agriculture and small scale farmers, as well as specialty product entrepreneurs. The market strengthens the local economy, connects people to local agriculture and serves as a community gathering place.

Area Health Care Provider Recognized for Efforts to Vaccinate Children

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and Green County Public Health (GCPH) are pleased to announce that Monroe Clinic Pediatrics and Family Medicine and Monroe Clinic-New Glarus have just been named a “BigShot” for their efforts to vaccinate children against diseases. The recognition is given to those health care providers who vaccinate 90% or more of their young patients based on immunization data collected (DHS).
“We are pleased to recognize Monroe Clinic - SSM for their diligence in helping to keep our children healthy,” said RoAnn Warden, Director of GCPH.

Village of New Glarus – Trustee Vacancies

The Village of New Glarus is seeking qualified residents to serve in the capacity of Village Trustee for the Village Board of Trustees. There are currently two (2) vacancies. One (1) vacancy is a one (1) year term, expiring 4/2020 and the other is for a two (2) year term, expiring 4/2021. The Village Board meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday each month. Trustees would be involved in Committee/Commission work as well that could include 1-2 additional monthly meetings.
