Several Monticello Track Team Members Preparing for State

The Monticello track team competed at the Redbird Invitational in Darlington on May 6th. The men finished in 8th place while the women finished in 9th place.
Men’s Results
In the 400M dash, Lucas Heiser placed 17th.
In the 800M run, Simon Blohowiak placed 10th, while Lucas Heiser placed 20th and Sam Allard placed 21st.
In the 1600M run, Evan Guenther placed 3rd while Logan Blum placed 13th and Sam Allard placed 19th.
In the 3200M run, Rudy Wicker finished 2nd while Braylon Hoesly placed 5th and Tristin Flanagan placed 7th.

Belleville Forms Home Talent League Baseball Team

A new Home Talent League baseball team has been formed in Belleville. The Belleville Raiders began playing against other local HTL teams in late April.
They’re still looking for players from the Belleville, Monticello, New Glarus areas and surrounding communities. Please call or text (608) 577-9954 if you’re interested in joining the team.

Monticello Softball Update

On May 6th, the Monticello softball team hosted Pecatonica. The game was close throughout, but the Vikings managed to inch ahead just enough in the 5th and scored another run in the 7th to win the game, 7-10.
Monticello’s Sarah Blumer was 2x3 at bat while Claire Klossner was 2x4 at bat and Lexi Graber was 1x3 at bat.
Claire Klossner pitched 1/3 inning, giving up 5 runs on 2 hits and 4 errors, while Harley Disch pitched for 2 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 1 hit and striking out 1 and Miah Brokopp pitched 4 innings, striking out 4 and giving up 3 runs on 1 hit.

Ponies Baseball Loses Tough Game to Vikings

The Monticello/Albany Ponies played at Pecatonica on May 6th. Despite the Ponies jumping out to an early lead, the Vikings mounted a comeback and won the game, 9-4.
Andy Eyler and Luke Johnson each got 2 hits for the Ponies.
Kollin Klitzke struck out 2 from the mound.
On May 7th, the Ponies played Argyle at Wiota, losing 2-12 in 5 innings. No further information was available.
The Ponies played a double header at Black Hawk on May 14th, will host a double header against Potosi/Cassville on May 17th and will host Barneveld on May 20th.

Knights Win Over Marshall, Monticello

The New Glarus Knights baseball team played at Marshall on May 7th, winning 7-4.
The Knights began the scoring early in the 1st inning and scored 4 more in the 7th to win the game.
Cooper Dreyfus went 3x4 at bat, scoring 2 runs and 1 RBI while Reeve Binger went 2x4 at bat with 1 RBI and Darris Schuett was 2x3 at bat with 1 run. Connor Siegenthaler, Holden Latsch, Ben Melvin and Nathan Streiff all scored 1 run apiece.
Ben Melvin pitched for the Knights, striking out 2 and allowing 11 hits.
On May 10th, the Knights played at Cambridge and lost 1-3.

Gov. Evers Announces Appointments to Board of Regents

Gov. Tony Evers today announced three appointments to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents:
Karen Walsh, Madison, is being appointed for a 7-year term from May 2, 2019-May 1, 2026. A former journalist, Ms. Walsh spent more than 20 years working in various roles at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and currently serves as the director of a local family foundation dedicated to advancing human and animal health and welfare.

FCCLA to Sponsor New Glarus Community Blood Drive

Many people want to give back to the community but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. In only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant gratification.
The community is invited to give back and help save lives by donating blood on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the New Glarus High School, 1701 2nd Street, sponsored by New Glarus Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).

New Glarus High School HS Band and Choir State Solo &amp; Ensemble Results

On Saturday, April 27th, 28 band, and five choir students from New Glarus High School performed at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival held at UW-Platteville. Eight of the band events scored 1 ratings for their performances, and three events received 2 ratings. Ben Copeland also receive an Exemplary Performance nomination for his trombone solo. The five high school choir events scored 1 ratings for their performances as well. Congratulations to everyone on their successful performances.

Arbor Day Celebrated in New Glarus

New Glarus received its twenty-fourth consecutive Tree City USA award and a total of 48 trees were planted in New Glarus on Thursday, May 2nd, as part of the village's annual Arbor Day tree planting.
Adult volunteers and New Glarus High School students, under the direction of Dan Ziegler, joined Village Forester Paul Jennrich in planting trees throughout the village. The Village Public Works Department assisted by pre-digging planting sites and hauling wood chips to designated locations for use by the volunteers.

New Glarus FFA Alumni and DNR to Sponsor Free Fishing Adventure

Looking for something fun to do with your children? The New Glarus FFA Alumni and Wisconsin DNR will be holding its second annual<strong> F</strong>ree<strong> F</strong>ishing <strong>A</strong>dventure on Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 9:00 a.m.- Noon, at Hoesly Pond at the intersection of Hwy 69 and Hwy W.
Children of all ages can participate in Fishing with a Parent. Bring your own gear, or some gear will be available to use and bait will be provided.
Lunch will be provided by the New Glarus FFA Alumni.
