New Glarus Lions Club Chicken Barbecue

The New Glarus Lions Club will hold their annual Chicken Barbecue at the Village Park on Friday, May 24, 2019, serving from 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit local scholarships and other community projects. Enjoy music by Larry Daehn while you eat.
Adult tickets (over age 12) are $10.00, children 6-12 eat for $5.00 and ages 5 and under eat for free. On the menu is delicious Barbecued Chicken, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Roll with Butter and Milk. Save room for dessert!

Come support your local veterans and enjoy a delicious breakfast with great people on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., at the Legion Hall, 1121 2nd Street, New Glarus. The Monticello Lions Club is holding Spring Fling this year on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

Belleville High School Students of the Month

For the last time this school year, Belleville High School teachers recognized Students of the Month. On Friday, May 10, students received a personalized certificate from their teacher, movie passes courtesy of Marcus Theaters, and were treated to a Tano's Pizza lunch. Teachers noted that this group of students have positive attitudes, improved work, and participate to classroom discussions. Congratulations to this group of Wildcats for ending the year strong!

Belleville Middle School Students of the Month

On Friday, May 3, Belleville Middle School staff recognized Students of the Month for May. Staff and students stayed in the cafeteria at the end of lunch to hear teachers speak about their nominees and bring them up to the front. For this month core teachers, as well as Health and PE teachers, had the opportunity to recognize students. Students received a certificate, a Catty Shack buck to the school store, and the chance to put their handprints up in the middle school commons. Congratulations to these Wildcats!

BHS Presents Annual Jazz in the Park Concert

The Belleville High School Jazz Ensemble and Vocal Jazz groups would like to invite you to our 5th Annual Jazz in the Park concert that will be performed on Wednesday, May 22nd, from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at Library Park in downtown Belleville. Both groups will be performing a wide array of jazz and contemporary pop hits.

Belleville Fire Department Holds In-Service Ceremony

On Saturday, May 4, 2019, the Belleville Fire Department held an open house and official in-service ceremony for Squad 3. Chief Brian Hollis Sr. thanked the members of the Fire District Board, members of the municipal governments and all the members of the community who made the purchase and equipping of this vehicle possible. The Reverend Dr. Mark E. Yurs presented a prayer for the safety of the truck and those it serves. Rev. Yurs is the father of Belleville Fire Fighter Dale Yurs, which brought a familial connection to the ceremony.

BENEDICT J. HOFMEISTER

Benedict Jerome Hofmeister, age 78 of the Village of Belleville, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg. Ben was born January 13, 1941 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Benedict M. and Marie K. Hofmeister.

DAVID A. HAAK

David A. Haak, age 58 of Belleville, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison following a 13-year battle with myelofibrosis. He was born on March 12, 1961, in Monroe, WI, the son of LaVern and Marilyn (Kuehni) Haak.

Click It or Ticket Safety Belt Enforcement

The New Glarus and Belleville Police Departments will intensify their enforcement of the mandatory safety belt law during the annual Click It or Ticket mobilization from May 20 to June 2. More than 300 law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin are expected to participate in this year’s Click It or Ticket, according to a joint news release from New Glarus Police Lieutenant Jeff Sturdevant and Belleville Police Chief Bill Eichelkraut.
