Come and Celebrate 100 Years

The American Legion and Monticello American Legion Post #256 are both celebrating 100 years this year. The celebration will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., in the Rehmstedt Gym at Monticello High School, 334 S. Main Street.
This event is open to all Veterans and their families, as well as the entire community. Donations will be accepted to defray costs for a light meal which will be provided. The Junction Jammers will be playing and there will be a short program at 1:00 p.m., and special speakers during an intermission.

Attention All Veterans

I would like to invite all men and women that have served and are serving to the 2019 Veteran’s Day Program. The program will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., in the Belleville High School Gym. You will be honored by a program meant to honor you. Please come and join us. There will be a table when coming in the gym for you to fill out a form before taking a seat on the chairs. I would like to know what branch you served in, or are serving in. If you are unable to attend please ask a family member to stand in for you.

On October 25th and October 26th, there will be a Haunted Trail in Belleville, with access to Oliver Trail from the entrance of the Belleville School District Office, 635 W. Church Street.

Belleville Area CROP Hunger Walk

What are you doing on Sunday, October 20th? Would you like a way to visit with friends, make new friends, enjoy the outdoors, get exercise AND help change the world? Come walk with us in the CROP Hunger Walk to raise funds to fight hunger in our community and around the world. We’ll start and end at First United Church of Christ, located at 130 E. Church Street in Belleville. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m., and the walk begins at 1:00 p.m.

Prevent Prescription Painkiller Abuse and Overdose

Do your part in preventing prescription painkiller abuse and drug overdose by participating in Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The Belleville Police Department will have a drive-through set up at their new police station at 61 Frederick Street.

LARRY E. HUMMEL

Larry E. Hummel, age 72 of Monticello, died at his home on Friday, October 11, 2019, surrounded by his family. Larry was born on February 3, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Lawrence E. and Dora M. (Peterson) Hummel.

ARLINE A. BIRCHER

Arline A. Bircher, age 86, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019, at UW Hospital in Madison. She was born on May 12, 1933, the daughter of Otto and Dorothy (Curtis) Scholz.
On October 3, 1964, she was united in marriage to Herbert Bircher. Arline worked for WP&L for many years. Arline loved to garden and plant flowers, a passion she put to work at Felly's Flowers working in their greenhouses. She also enjoyed bird watching and faithfully followed her daily soap operas.

Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner

The Albany and Monroe Lions Clubs and the Green County Veterans Service Office are sponsoring the annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at the Albany Lions Club Building, 402 N. Cincinnati Street, on the northeast side of Albany. Active Duty Personnel, Veterans, their spouses and widows or widowers of deceased Veterans are invited. There will be two seatings to accommodate everyone. The first seating will be at 11:00 a.m.; and the second at 12:30 p.m. There will be no reservations taken. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.

The Monticello New Glarus Boy Scout Troop 106 is holding their annual evergreen decoration fundraiser through October 31, 2019. Several items are available for purchase, including a cedar spray, wreaths, a mantel centerpiece, a balsam spray, a cross, balsam garlands and the ever popular candy cane.
