Belleville High School 2019 Fall Theater Festival

On Friday, November 8, and Saturday, November 9, Belleville High School presented their Fall Theater Festival, which was directed by Mrs. Emma Vogel and Mr. Michael Vogel.
Performers included Jacob Kean, Alan Woller, Anna Wortman, Miles Fahey, Bella Miller, Jordyn Thomas, Jordyn Roberts, Natalie Brown, Erin Przybyl, Ali Zimmerman, Coral Kramer, Ella Blask, Jenna Blask, Averi Boyum, Skyler Beyer, Christian Hakala, Josh Kean, Alexa Lindstrom, Hunter Lindstrom, Maddie Miller and Cole Monroe.

November 11, 1944

Seventy five years ago this week, November 5th-12th changed the course of WWII. Momentum was beginning to swing toward an Allied victory, bringing to an end a war that had torn Europe apart since 1939. The June 6, 1944, D-Day invasion at Normandy was the beginning of the end for Hitler and the Germans.

Mediacom Offers $60,000 in Scholarships

Mediacom Communications is offering $60,000 in scholarship support for high school seniors who plan to obtain further education. The scholarship program is in its 19th consecutive year and Mediacom’s investment will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 60 high school seniors.
Scholarship recipients are given the flexibility to use the financial award to support post-secondary college costs or vocational training from any accredited institution starting in the fall of 2020. Award selection is based on academic achievement and leadership.

Hardwood Trees for Planting Spring 2020

Fall is here! The trees are turning colors. When looking at the colorful trees, we should be considering next year’s colors too. The Green County Land & Water Conservation Department is offering nine varieties of trees and two varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting next spring. The tree varieties are Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple, Shagbark Hickory, American Plum, White Pine, and Norway Spruce. Shrubs available are Serviceberry and Black Currant.

Village of New Glarus Nomination Procedure for Running for Village Offices

Candidates for local office in the Village of New Glarus can begin circulating Nomination Papers on December 1, 2019. The Spring Election will have three Trustee positions up for election. Incumbents whose terms end in 2020 are Trustees Tammy Newberry, Charles Phillipson and Petra Streiff.

New Glarus Brewing Company to Host Red Cross Blood Drive

Many people want to give back to the community but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. In only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and feel instant gratification.
The community is invited to give back and help save lives by donating blood on Monday, November 18, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the New Glarus Brewing Company, 301 Cow Path Lane, New Glarus. The Blood Drive will be held in the south tasting room, and after giving blood donors will receive a free can of Spotted Cow to take home with them.

New Glarus High School Math Team Takes First at Math Competition

Congratulations to the New Glarus High School Math Team. On Wednesday, November 6, 2019, the math team took first place at the UW-Platteville Mathematics Meet for Division 3 schools. Fifteen teams from eleven different Division 3 schools participated in the competition. In all, 800 students attended the competition. The competition combines the top scores for students on the Level 1 and Level 2 teams. Students take both individual and team tests. New Glarus had seven students receive top individual score medals.

Adventsfensters, the life-size Advent calendar, are returning to New Glarus this holiday season. Common in the smaller towns and villages of Switzerland, New Glarus resident Jackie Judd brought them to life here last year.

UW-Extension Offers Master Gardener Training

If you are interested in learning how to better manage your lawn, trees, shrubs, or garden, and share your gained knowledge with others, you may want to register for the University of Wisconsin, Division of Extension, Master Gardener Level One training that will be offered in Monroe beginning January 14, 2020. Classes to learn more about horticulture and to become an Extension Certified Master Gardener Volunteer are being offered on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., from January 14th to March 17th, at the Green County UW-Extension Office, 2841 6th Street, Monroe.
