Parking Stalls Now Reserved for Post Office Use

Recently the New Glarus Post Office experienced some route changes and reassignments. Because of that, their coverage area increased and required more space for their delivery vehicles. As a result, the Postal Service requested and the village board approved two stalls of reserved parking for their exclusive use. These stalls will help in the loading/unloading of the route vehicles and provide overnight space for their vehicles.

Sip and Swipe Program Offered in Monroe

The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Green County was awarded a Sip & Swipe Café grant through Generations on Line and the Bader Foundation. This grant provides older adults the opportunity to learn about some of the newest technologies in iPads and tablets. Owning a tablet is not required since the grant provided four tablets, which will be used for hands-on training for seniors. A tablet is a small computer with a touch screen that is swiped instead of using a separate keyboard or mouse.

House of Blues Music Forward Foundation and Live Nation Announce 2020 College Scholarship Programs

The House of Blues Music Forward Foundation, in partnership with Live Nation Entertainment, the world’s leading live entertainment company, and the Living Legacy Foundation, today announced its 2020 application period. Students pursuing music industry careers can apply for the college scholarship program now through March 31, 2020.
A total of four $10,000 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding college students—in either their junior or senior year—majoring in music business and/or related fields at an accredited college or university in the U.S.

Sugar River Euchre

Belleville residents may have heard the Harley Blue Express crew yelling, “I know we can, I Know we can, I know we can last Thursday night as the Express clambered by the River Rats with the boost of power from Opie Taylor and Steve Hoffmaster’s 115 chunks of coal. J&M River Rats Jim Gehin and Dan Palmer attempted to block the tracks with their 111 pounds of cheese, but it just wasn’t enough, the Express scampered past the Rats by 26.

Hunter Safety Classes

The Green County Sheriff’s Office is again offering DNR Hunter Safety classes in 2020. Our goal in providing this instruction is to reduce the potential for accidents, injuries and fatalities. We also look to reduce the potential for conflict between participants, landowners and other resource users; and to promote safe, responsible and ethical use of the environment and our resources.

Crusaders Edge Past Cheesemakers

The Monroe hockey co-op hosted the Madison Edgewood Crusaders on January 21st, losing 2-4.
The game was scoreless until the third period when Edgewood scored three quick goals. Monroe’s Hayden Roth, assisted by Cade Janecke and Payton Stauffacher, put the first goal on the board on a power play. Shortly after that, Janecke, assisted by Roth and Cooper Dreyfus scored the second and final goal for the team.
Heath Bear had 44 saves on goal for the team.

Lady Ponies Trample Broncos

The Monticello Lady Ponies hosted the Orangeville Broncos on January 20th. Down by 6 at halftime, the Ponies battled back and won the game. The final score was Monticello 51, Orangeville 44.
Mackie Errthum led the way for the Ponies with 20 points, while Harley Disch scored 15 points and Miah Brokopp put 6 points on the board.
The Ponies played at Albany on January 21st. Down 21-7 at the half, the Ponies couldn’t keep up with Albany’s offense in the second half and lost, 22-53. No further information about the game was provided.

Zimmerman Earns Spot on 2020 UW-Whitewater Men's Track and Field Roster

Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus and graduate of New Glarus High School, will compete for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s track and field team during the 2020 season. Zimmerman, a senior at UW-Whitewater, is majoring in Accounting and will lead the throwers. He is a 2019 third team College Sports Information Directors of America All-America selection, placed fifth in the shot put and eighth in the weight throw at the WIAC indoor meet, and fourth in shot put at the outdoor meet.

Wildcats Clip Bluejays' Wings

The Belleville Wildcats hosted Cambridge on Friday night, January 24th, handing the second place Capitol South team their first conference loss this season. Up by a single point at the half, the Wildcats outscored Cambridge in double digits in the second half to win the game. The final score was Belleville 77, Cambridge 54.
Leading the way for Belleville with 24 points was Carson Syse, while Trevor Syse scored 20 points and Kody Fahey put 13 points on the board.
