Wildcats Win Over Cambridge and Heights

The Belleville Wildcats boys basketball team played at Cambridge on Friday, February 18th. With a commanding 33-18 lead at the half, the Wildcats went on to win it 67-59.
Leading Belleville with 25 points was Trevor Syse, while Carson Syse scored 14 points and Sawyer Fahey scored 11 points.
On February 22nd, the Wildcats played at Wisconsin Heights. Leading by 6 at the half, the Wildcats won the game. The final score was Belleville 67, Wisconsin Heights 63.

Sugar River Euchre

Hay Shakers Steve Sponem and Rick Skindrud shook 112 points out of the J&M Bar River Rats to stack up Kleeman’s eighth win of the half, taking over sole possession of first place. Whereas, the Harley Blue Express received their first loss of the half at the hands of the Riley Shufflers. Harley Blue went ahead early on, but the Shufflers kept it close. Down by 5 after seven games, the Shufflers won all four games of the last frame to win the match by 19 points.

Raider Wrestlers Seasons End at Sectionals

The Raider’s wrestling season ended on Saturday. Both Robbie Chenoweth and Joe Quaglia wrestled hard and give it their all, but were unable to qualify for this year’s state tournament.

New Glarus Girls Prevail Over Cambridge in OT

In a game postponed a day due to a snowstorm that dumped more than 5 inches on the area, the Monticello Lady Ponies hosted the New Glarus Lady Knights on February 18th. New Glarus was leading at the half, 37-11, and cruised to a 60-30 win over Monticello.
Leading New Glarus with 24 points was Jaylynn Benson, while Brooke Watrud, Ellie Eichelkraut and Lily Himmelmann each scored 6 points and Morgan Thompson, Dylan Noll and Shealyn Klosterman-Havens all scored 5 points each.

Belleville Lady Wildcats Fall to Waterloo in Tightly Contested Game

On Thursday, February 20th, the Belleville Wildcats girls basketball team traveled to Waterloo for their last conference game against the Waterloo Pirates. The game was close from the start, with neither team having more than an 8-point lead at any time. The Wildcats went into the locker room at half-time with a 27-25 point lead, however due to a couple of timely 3-pointers made by Waterloo and a few costly mistakes by the Wildcats, they allowed the Pirates to secure the win with a 59-55 victory.

Cheesemakers Hockey Knocked Out in First Round of Regionals

The Monroe Cheesemakers co-op hockey team was knocked out of the first round of the WIAA Regionals by Reedsburg on February 18th by a score of 0-1. Reedsburg scored early on in the first period and held off the Cheesemakers until the end of the third.
Heath Bear had 23 saves on goal for the Cheesemakers.

New Glarus Library Capital Campaign Receives $50,000 Matching Grant

The capital campaign for the new library in New Glarus received a matching grant for $50,000 titled ‘Love of Community’ from an anonymous donor. Any donations received until that amount is reached will be doubled.
The inspiration for the name of the matching grant, ‘Love of Community’, is based on research published in ‘Science Direct’ that indicates citizens have an increased sense of well-being in communities with public spaces, such as libraries.

Spectrum Announces Faster Internet Speeds and Expanded TV Choices for the Village of Monticello

Spectrum has announced a major construction project to expand its network and full suite of services to three rural villages in southern Wisconsin, Monticello, Orfordville and Footville.
