New Glarus FFA Alumni Donates Cheese to Families

This week the New Glarus FFA Alumni purchased 100 pounds of cheese from Decatur Dairy. Steve Stettler, Master Cheesemaker at Decatur Dairy, also donated an additional 40 pounds of cheese. The cheese was delivered to every New Glarus family that is receiving meals from the school. We hope that this gesture will continue to help our local dairy farms as well as the families who receive it.

April 23 is National Lost Dog Awareness Day

On April 23, the U.S. will celebrate National Lost Dog Awareness Day (NLDAD). This canine-focused awareness day was created by Lost Dogs of America in 2014 to bring attention to the many dogs who go missing from their homes every day. We are proud that some local rescues and shelters use NLDAD as an opportunity to schedule events focused on lost dogs, such as low cost microchipping. Shelters and rescues can download graphics to use at https://lostdogsofamerica.org/awareness-day/.

Arbor Day Tree Planting Cancelled in New Glarus

The Arbor Day tree planting day this spring in New Glarus has been cancelled.
“Due to the risk involved, we did not want to put volunteers or homeowners at risk to plant the trees. We do still plan to plant 13 new trees in the downtown to replace the ones that were removed this winter, and we will plant a few new trees in Hoesly Park,” said Village Forester Paul Jennrich. “I will work with the Public Works department to plant the trees so we do not need to risk any volunteers’ health.”

New Glarus Community 175th Celebration Geranium Group

Our community will be celebrating 175 years as a settlement this summer. Founded in 1845 by a group of Swiss Glarners, New Glarus has held strong to traditions. One of the most obvious and appreciated is the beautiful flowers adorning homes, businesses, parks, street corners and more. Visiting Switzerland or seeing photos and postcards one can’t help but notice the overflowing containers of blooms.

Students of the Month - March

hifted now that students are at home learning online with the school closure. Students and their parents will receive a personalized video message from their nominating teacher and gift certificates will be mailed home.
It is not as much fun to celebrate without the students and their classmates, but we are trying to make the best of a tough situation. Congratulations to these Wildcats who have successfully made the transition to online learning!
