Dale A. Stampfli, age 61, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2020, at UW-Hospital in Madison. He was born on October 28, 1958, in Edgerton, the son of Walter and Lois (Mandt) Stampfli Sr.

Ben Jackson Foundation to Hold Online Bingo Event

The Ben Jackson Foundation will be hosting an online Virtual Bingo event on Friday, May 1st. The event will take place over video conference. It will start at 7:30 p.m., and will feature five Bingo games.
Between games, new military members from various southern Wisconsin communities will be presented with a Military Travel Award.
These awards recognize those who have decided to enlist in the US Armed Forces, and provide a cash grant to service members who are able to use when traveling home on leave from their first permanent duty station.

Libraries Exploring Curbside Delivery Options

Wisconsin’s new Safer At Home order that was issued on April 16th gives libraries some flexibility to begin offering curbside pickup of library materials, but not until April 24 or later. The previous order, which prohibits curbside service, remains in effect until 8:00 a.m., on April 24.

New Glarus FFA Alumni Purchases and Donates Milk

The New Glarus FFA Alumni purchased 128 gallons of milk from New Glarus Dairy on Monday, April 20, 2020. The milk is going to be delivered to every New Glarus family that is receiving meals from the school. They hope that this gesture will help our local dairy farms as well as the families who receive it.

Teachers and Students Connect With Car Parade

The staff of the New Glarus School District took some time to get out and see some of their students on Saturday, April 18, 2020. With a little help from friends like the New Glarus Fire Department, New Glarus Area EMS and New Glarus Police Department, a car parade was held.

Evers Directs DNR to Close Forty State Parks, Forests, and Recreational Areas

Gov. Tony Evers has directed the Department of Natural Resources to close several state parks to protect the health and safety of Wisconsinites.
Due to unprecedented crowds, litter and vandalism, and out of an abundance of caution to protect public health and safety and help flatten the curve, the following Wisconsin State Parks, Forests and Recreational Areas closed at the end of the day Thursday, April 9, 2020, and will remain closed beginning Friday, April 10, 2020, until further notice:

Outdoor Burning Prohibited in Green County

Based on a written request from the Green County Fire Officer’s Association, the Green County Sheriff’s Office has issued an outdoor burning ban, effective immediately. The ban includes all outdoor burning in barrels, piles on the ground and/or grass or wooded areas. Eliminating ignition sources is intended to assist in protecting the health and safety of our firefighters and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and is in effect until further notice.

National Weather Service Storm Spotter Training

The US National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office is hosting five online spotter training sessions over the next few weeks (for NWS Milwaukee area only, Sauk to Sheboygan Counties to the Illinois state line).
The sessions will be held on Monday, April 20th, from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.; Wednesday, April 22nd, from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.; and Friday, April 24th, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

New Glarus Summer Festivals Update

With the Safer at Home Order in full swing, and restrictions on large group gatherings in place for the foreseeable future, the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce has had to make the hard decision to postpone this year’s Polkafest and Beer, Bacon & Cheese. The Chamber has chosen October 9th and 10th as the new dates, to give the best chance of avoiding more health-related cancellations. Beer, Bacon & Cheese tickets will go on sale April 15th, at 9:00 a.m., via the Facebook event page. The New Glarus Bike Rodeo and New Glarus Music Fest have both been cancelled.

Industrial Drive Sewer Main Leak

The Village of New Glarus had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a sewer main located on Industrial Drive of 100-500 gallons, due to a main blockage. The discharge occurred on March 23, 2020. The leak was contained and cleaned. The sewer main is now functioning properly.
