Monticello Village Offices Closed

On the evening of Tuesday, March 31st, the President of the Monticello Village Board Leaora Miller announced on a Facebook post that they had closed the village clerk’s office to the public on Monday, March 30, 2020, until further notice.
Miller noted that the recycling center would remain open its normal hours, Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles until the attendant instructs them further and to follow all directions posted at the recycling center.

Village of Monticello Spring Clean Up Day

All Items Must be Separated/Sorted and Curbside By 7:00 a.m., on Monday, April 20, 2020
All debris, excluding brush, must be in an area not larger than 4’wide x 10’ long x 4’ high.
Items accepted are: Furniture and miscellaneous junk, burn barrels to be discarded must be empty, brush and scrap lumber with no tree limbs over 6” in diameter or 8’ in length – in separate pile stacked parallel with street, paint cans must be empty, or open with paint completely dried.

Dear Editor,
This week is the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child. It is a week that celebrates our youngest members of society, but also brings attention to the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. In New Glarus, those services are our children’s library programs, group and family child care centers, school programs, and other informal community programs.

Mrs. Lloyd Hershberger, on Tuesday night, received a telephone call from her husband, Lt. Hershberger, stating that he had just arrived on the west coast after serving 20 months in the South Pacific as a Navy doctor. Mrs. Hershberger, who has been making her home with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John H. Kundert, will join her husband.

Alice in Dairyland Finals Moved to June 19-20

Due to challenges posed by the COVID-19 public health emergency, the upcoming 73rd Alice in Dairyland Finals are facing several significant changes, including date, format and location.
The 73rd Alice in Dairyland Finals will now occur over two days: June 19-20. To maintain appropriate social distancing, those events will be livestreamed over the internet for public viewing, including a live question and answer session Friday, June 19, and the Finale Event on Saturday, June 20, at which the 73rd Alice in Dairyland will be selected.

Update on the 2020 Green County Breakfast on the Farm

The 2020 breakfast that was to be held on May 30th has been postponed. The Green County Ag Chest is excited that the Meier family has agreed to host the 2021 Green County Breakfast.
Tentatively, they have decided to hold this year’s breakfast on Saturday, June 20th, at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe. This event coincides with Dairy Days, also hosted by the Green County Ag Chest.

New Glarus High School Participates in the #BeTheLight Campaign

On Friday, April 10th at 8:00 p.m., New Glarus High School participated in the #BeTheLight campaign. The lights at Glarner Park, Veterans Park, and the Elementary School Stadium were turned on for 20 minutes in support of student-athletes and others participating in all forms of extra-curricular activities.
