Wisconsin's Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 13-17

April 13-17, 2020, is Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin, and ReadyWisconsin is encouraging everyone to take time this spring to talk about weather safety with their families. ReadyWisconsin, the National Weather Service and Wisconsin Broadcasters Association also encourage everyone in the state to participate in a Virtual Tornado Drill at 1:45 p.m., on Thursday, April 16.

Hodel Completes Basic Training

Claire M. Hodel, daughter of John and Jane Hodel, has completed her Basic Training and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. She is now serving in the Wisconsin Army National Guard.
Claire graduated with the class of 2019 from New Glarus High School. She plans on getting her education in Biology this fall, and Marine Biology after her commitment to the military.

Social Distancing Guidelines

There appears to be some confusion in regards to social distancing, outlined in the Safer at Home order, which became effective on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. As recently as this past weekend, people were still holding gatherings at their homes and with Easter weekend coming up, which is typically time spent with extended family, this article serves as a reminder as to what the guidelines of social distancing entails.

Burglary at Five Star Cellular in New Glarus

On Thursday, April 2, 2020, at 7:58 p.m., New Glarus Police investigated a burglary at Five Star Cellular. An investigation revealed that a landscaping brick was thrown through the front glass door to gain entry into the business. It was a smash and grab incident, and the suspects were in and out of the business in less than three minutes.

Outdoor Burning Prohibited in Green County

Based on a written request from the Green County Fire Officer’s Association, the Green County Sheriff’s Office has issued an outdoor burning ban, effective immediately. The ban includes all outdoor burning in barrels, piles on the ground and/or grass or wooded areas. Eliminating ignition sources is intended to assist in protecting the health and safety of our firefighters and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and is in effect until further notice.

Monticello Turns Out to Show Support For Special Needs Families

A car parade was held on Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Monticello.
The event was held to show support for those that have family members who have special needs which require car rides for therapeutic purposes to help ease the stress for the isolation. This guided tour provided these families a destination for their ride, as well as the opportunity for the community to step out and provide those families with support. There were signs on houses and businesses, and people standing all along the route cheering! Even the Easter Bunny took part in the parade.

Green County Herds Recognized for Milk Quality

Green County dairy producers are well recognized for producing the high quality milk that results in the production of some of the finest cheese in the world. Dairy farms are unique because efforts to produce a high quality product must occur every day. The success of our dairy industry has been built on the consumers' confidence in the quality of our dairy products. The top Green County dairy herds were recognized at the Green County Area Dairy Management Seminar for producing high quality milk based on their somatic cell count (SCC) levels.
