Madison Man Arrested in Connection to Overdose Death of Albany Resident

On Monday, April 20, 2020, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Albany EMS was called to a Village of Albany residence in response to a report of a possible overdose incident. The patient was transported for medical attention and on April 21, 2020, the Albany Police Department was notified the patient died at UW Hospital on April 20th.

WIAA Board Provides Unprecedented Flexibility For Fall Sports

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control considered a number of season schedule models and resolved to maintain fall interscholastic opportunities with a delayed start, as well as an alternate opportunity for schools unable to start and administer the traditional fall season, at its virtual special meeting on Thursday, July 23rd.

Wisconsin EMS Association Announces New Officers

The Wisconsin EMS Association announces the nomination of Brian Donaldson as President, Jamie Stephenson as Vice President and Aimee Zeinert as Secretary of the WEMSA Board for 2020-2021.
Brian Donaldson is the Service Director of Waushara County EMS. Jamie Stephenson is the Service Director for Belleville EMS and Aimee Zeinert is a Community Paramedic with Shawano Ambulance. Jay Young continues as Treasurer and runs with Bloomer Community Ambulance. Outgoing President Kirk Gunderson, with Mayo Ambulance, completes the Executive Committee as the Immediate Past President.

<strong>Memorial Services Sunday for Pfc. Edwin Gammeter</strong>
On Sunday afternoon, July 29, at three o’clock p.m., memorial services will be conducted for Pfc. Edwin Gammeter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Gammeter, Primrose Township, at Zwingli Evangelical and Reformed Church at Mt. Vernon by Rev. Walter G. Clausing.
Pfc. Gammeter was drowned when the boat in which he was crossing the Mulde River in central Europe, on April 30, 1945, tipped over. He was a rifleman in the 60th regiment of the 9th Division in the First Army.

New Glarus Home Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19

On Friday, July 24th, the New Glarus Home identified through routine staff testing that an employee is positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus. The employee remains completely without any symptoms. That employee, and the employees with direct contact over the past week, immediately implemented self-isolation at home.

More Local Festivals and Events Cancelled

Due to ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 virus, the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel New Glarus Oktoberfest, Polkafest, and New Glarus Beer, Bacon & Cheese for 2020. All New Glarus Beer, Bacon & Cheese tickets that have been already purchased will be completely refunded.
The Wilhelm Tell Festival, Volksfest and the Alphornman Triathlon have also been cancelled.
Green County Breakfast on the Farm has also been cancelled.

Ruth Evelyn Wenger, 99, New Glarus, WI, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020, at the New Glarus Home, New Glarus, WI. Ruth was born on April 22, 1921, in New Glarus, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred and Sarah (Wichser) Ziltner.
