NEOWISE Comet Visible in Area

The comet, popularly called NEOWISE, is officially known as C/2020 F3. The comet was spotted by NASA's NEOWISE satellite in March, as it made its initial approach to the sun. It survived its loop around the sun and has been visible to the naked eye for the past few weeks. This photo was taken Saturday night near New Glarus.

Governor Evers' Personal Assistant Dies in Sugar River Tubing Accident

On Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 3:20 p.m., Green County Deputies and the Albany Fire Department responded to the area of N4600 County Highway E to a report of a male subject tubing on the Sugar River who went under the water and did not resurface. Also responding were Albany EMS, Green County EMS, Brodhead Fire Department, WI Department of Natural Resources, Janesville Fire’s Water Rescue Team and the Rock County Dive Team.
At 6:05 p.m., searchers located the body of a 25-year-old Madison man in the water about 400 yards from where he entered the water.

Monticello Village Board hears Motion to Allow ATVs, UTVs and Golf Carts on All Streets

The Monticello Village Board met on July 15, 2020, in the Lions Club Shelter in the Village Park. All board members were in attendance. Village President Leaora Miller had put a notice on the Village’s Facebook page saying, in part, “Anyone that is interested in being heard by the Village Board on dogs being allowed in the park and the ATV/UTV Trail, please attend. We want to hear your opinions.” Many people turned out to discuss both issues.

The Belleville Community Picnic was born from an idea in 1952 to gather the citizens of this small village and celebrate our vibrant volunteer spirit with a large picnic. Although, there are changes for this year’s Community Picnic. This year, the chicken dinners on August 9th will be offered as a drive-up/carry-out option only with delivery options available to those within the 53508 area code.

Ice Cream Trailer Visits Belleville

The trailer will be at Community Park from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 26, serving soft serve ice cream as well as ice cream sundaes.

It’s time for positive change here in America. Not just political opponents are facing off in 2020 – it is our core values as a Democratic Republic!
My support for positive change for the 51st Wisconsin State Assembly in 2020 is KRISS MARION. Kriss is a friend and strong leader. Kriss wants to pass a non-partisan redistricting solution in 2021 to end dysfunctional gerrymandering in WI.
Kriss believes that rural places are the soul of our state and need investment in schools, roads, senior housing, internet service and quality healthcare coverage.

Bauman Opposed to Trail Opening to ATV and UTV Traffic

Dear Editor,
I am opposed to allowing ATV/UTVs on the Sugar River and Badger State trails for many reasons. One of these reasons is the inherent safety risk that would be created by allowing these year-round vehicles on trails that were designed for walking, biking and winter snowmobiling. The trails are narrow in places and have numerous blind curves that could create tragic situations.

<strong>University of Dubuque Announces May 2020 Graduates</strong>
For the first time in its 168-year history, University of Dubuque held virtual commencement ceremonies to celebrate the accomplishments of over 350 graduates on May 16, 2020. Since the campus could not gather in-person because of the pandemic, UD officials held virtual commencements for undergraduate and graduate students in the Class of 2020 on the original date for May Commencement. <strong>Kayla Schween</strong>, New Glarus, earned a Master of Arts in Mission and Discipleship.
